New SET Plans required

Looks like it is confirmed Dialog TV have introduced UTV and UTV World Movies only to the Rs 1940/= package only. So the next step that Dialog TV should take is to introduce new SET Plans for these new channels so that lower level package users such as the old Rs 1400/= premium package users can watch these channels. The SET plans should be reasonably priced.

We hereby request all our Bloggers to limit discussions to only Dialog TV and not to indulge in any conversation relating to any other topic or even Dialog subsidiary companies. This is a forum only for Dialog TV discussions.

Please continue updating us on the latest regarding Dialog TV as the days progress.

some comments on previous post have been deleted.. I think there were around 125 comments and now only 91..

About DTV set plans.. there is no need to introduce new set plans for newly added channels like Bloomberg news, UTV, UTV movies and Boomerang. They should actually consider adding more content for 500,700 and 1375 packages too.. There are 13 local tv stations and Dialog only give 12 channels on their cheapest package.. So, what's the point in paying for DTV..? This is not ethical.. If they don't want to decrease their tariff then they should consider adding more quality content.. For a start they can replace Hindi Cartoon channels with English feeds. Adding more local tv channels etc..

Dialog TV should add more channels to the 700 & 1375PKG customrers. Dialog TV | Wake up...

And the channel line up is now a mess....
Movies Channel 05,06,07,08...11 and again 61, 62

Same for cartoons, News. This was due to newly added channels. I think they should sort the line up as well...

Guys what do you think about the SET plan 14. Itz unfair ryt. because it contains all movie channels like HBO family(4), Star movies and Cinemax. Star world nd star plus thr too. Its about 700 bugs. :(

What happened to the SET plan 13?

My suggestion is there must b sm gud SET plans for movie channels.
It is better if they introduce individual set plan for each movie channel with the price of 50 bugs for each... I think its fair. Then all package holders except Value Plus1949 can activate da movie channels as they needed... whtz do u think guys.... need suggestions..... :)

Guys,
I’ve been watching the discussion trails over here for last couple of months but never add a comment.
I saw something weird is happening from Dialog side by treating customer’s in two different ways.
Earlier you guys were talking something like pre Dialog Era customers and Dialog Customers were treated in two different ways.
I’ve brought a full package from Dialog in 2007 and they assured all the new channels will be reflected in the so called full channel.
I am paying 1600 + for the so called account but later on I found that they do neglecting us as their premium customers and treating the newly appoint 1900 club as the premium ones.
Today I gave a call to CC and found that they do allocating all the new channels to 1900 club but not to the 1600 club. What is this?
This is an irritating business practice it’s better to go to courts to get an order against their business mal practices.
I could not change to a new DTV platform since the initial investment is high.
Sooner or later they will announce another plus package against the 1900 club and will treat them in the same manner.
Bloody fucking Malaysians and gay Hans are sucking the money of Sri Lankans.
They are here because of us. Our money is the surviving factor for them. Their losses are due to their business mal practices. So what the hell they are trying to cover their losses at DTV through us?
We have to take an action against this mafia. Sooner the better.

Somebody from Srilanka must start DTH service, Why its all Malaysians taking away our money? SLT by Maxis malaysia,Dialog by Tele malaysia.
Electroteks can easily do DTH service in Srilanka but there is no any sign.
Reliance may use Electroteks/TVLanka license for up linking local TV channels for BigTV if they want.
Electroteks & Reliance are family friends, business partners & going to start Island wide GSM project, E-Net code No;076,This was announced by CEO,Mr.Abeywardena on live TV program.

In the Daily News of 7th Nov.2008 DTV has advertised that they are on a " Buy one get one free" offer where a supplementary connection will be installed at any given address free of charge and that there will be no other conditions....

PPL, can u believe this ???? U pay Rs.12500/- and get another connection worth Rs.12500/- free of charge......

This is unveiling the sinking of DTV....
say for the supplementary connection if one gets a Rs.500/- ( lowest price package ) pkg, how many months will it take DTV to cover the initial cost (12500/- of that connection) before making profits?????

And if you take the overall position DTV has not reached its breakeven point yet.( this was stated in an interview in the DN by a DTV official ( I can't remember whether it was the CEO) ) months back...

PPL, what do u think about this????

@ Aslam

Your comment is like a summary of what we have been discussing in the past abut the premium issue. We discussed this for so long thinking that DTV might realize that they are treating the customers unfairly, and do some thing about the bad image that is building up and the customer satisfaction. It is an image dialog built painstakingly over the years and then ruined in the last few months. All because of bad plaining and lack of vision. I blame marketing people and also technical guys. However, there is no positive response from their side.

There was some vision in the past when they introduced the 100 package. I would have shot up dTV customer base. Such package with buy one and get one free would be a perfect combination. They can pocket out so many additional 100s apart from the higher end packages. But I wonder the logic behind increasing it to 500. Such decisions can come only when there is total ignorance.

This indicates that dialog will only react when there is competition and not for the demands of the customer. This was their practice in the last few years (when you look at GSM). They are just followers or copy cats and not leaders or trend setters.

So it is pointless to talk about it again and again. They (DTV) will never accumulate brand loyalists. Keep looking for alternatives.

I sincerely hope that there will be another DTH operators will enter the arena (may be even indian with license to operate in SL) and offer tempting offers. I consider SLT IPTV also as a threat but at the moment their offers are not tempting and the cost factor is high. LBN has good offers, but their coverage is limited and may not be well stable at the moment (one does not want a repeat of comet).

Let the customer agitation build up. As with GSM, when there is competition with tempting offers, the masses will move out from DTV. Then only dialog will come to its senses and will try to introduce all sorts of 'life time discounts','blasters', etc.

IDIOTS!

if dialog tv would only satisfy the needs of the high pkg only, why did they have lower pkg then.Alrady they have taken out starmovies and HBO set plans and now these movie channels also only to high pkg, this is unfair.I wonder if we can sell dialog tv or any other solution for it.

It's not my late. Even I've trained some others to do some works for the Satellite TV guide. With my little help, they know how to do that. Then, Don't worry about the Guide.

But some important channels haven't updated their full month guide on time, including "History Channel"'. ( I think it's end of the year ).
But, I try to upload it in next 12 hours.

If there is anybody sensible at DTV, please listen!

DTV cannot compete Indian DTH providers on price.

The only way is to add more value to your services. I have been telling this over again.

DTV is way behind in technology and services. They need to concentrate on that front.

They can offer movies on demand, time shift features, pay per view features, music on demand, radio channels etc to add value to the service.

Apart from that, they need to enhance channel line up AND FOR GOD'S SAKE LET THE CUSTOMERS KNOW WHAT THEY CAN EXPECT!

So far, DTV has failed. But it will not be able to continuously fail as competition is creeping in within and from India.

We'll see what these guys are doing.

I think you are expecting too much from a DTH operator. This cannot be give by a DTH like DTV. Only thing you can expect is limited VOD with a built in Memory of the STB. Otherwise will have to change your connection to Interactive services like IPTV, Terestial Interactive digital TV etc.

Deshal said...

@ IPTV

Yep agreed. I think IPTV is the future. Hope SLT would improve it to acceptable level.

Transporter said...

@ Deshal,

I dont thik so... DTV is better than IPTV now. wil c....

Transporter said...

If IPTV & DTV go like this the future market is depend on Indian DTH Providers...

IPTV said...

Transporter,

Yes Indian DTH willplay a role onlive channels are the only concern. You cannot compare a Maruti with a BMW other than the fact that both are cars. There are many things other than live TV and latest technologies will give you more than DTH. Wait future you would get FTTH where you would get host of the services through internet.

Ur Maruthi & BMW concept is ok, but at the end; simply BMW can’t fulfill the requirement of low/mid class ppl… as only top & the richest ppl or person can use.

In this point DTV is much better than others.

gama said...

@ transporter
DTV IS NOT A MARUTI OR BMW. TO BE A BMW IT DOESNT HAVE TECHNOLOGY. NOT A MARUTI BECAUSE ITS EXPENSIVE. SO IT IS AN EXPENSIVE MARUTI!

@mahmba

the angel is 45degrees vertical western sky azmuth 271 degrees.

its always best to take down the whole outside unit as it is as this will eliminate the need to adjust the vertical angle, if not you need the OL angel kit to get the exact degree for IS 12 satelliet which actually is 48 degrees vertical to get the best signal feed.

to calculate the azmuth the easy way is to look at the sky and note the sun angel at a a particular time and the same should be repeated at the new location by visual gauge preferabbly this should be done in the afternoon on a cloudless day after 2pm when the sun is in the western sky, if not you need a compass to get the 271 degree azmuth.

also make sure that you mark the position of the LNB to the mark on the extended arm.

once you install the dish in the ne location facing the western sky, first get the azmuth done and then attend to vertical angel.

get a signal meter, if not make sure that your TV is close by, switch the decoder position to check signal page where it will display the quality and strength.

once azmuth is set set the vertical angel but make sure the nuts and bolts are not tigtened on azmuth as due to curvature of earth to satellite position and your location the azmuth can vary a degree or two in either direction. make sure where your north is from the location before the attempt.compass is ideal.

once azmuth is set try to incrase the quality of the signal by playing a bit with the vertical angel and for finer and increase more quality of signal you can twist the LNB clockwise and anticlockwise till you get the best levels.

it takes a bit of trial and error if you do not have the proper instruments as KU band is not as easily accomodating as a C band signal and you would have to be on the dot to get the signal downlink.

this works and better than to dish out Rs.8000plus as you say for relocation.

Millions lost to SLT in IPTV project

Tuesday, 11 November 2008 16:58

A top-level inquiry is on into a reported loss running into millions of rupees to 'Sri Lanka Telecom' as a result of a swindle by a foreign company in a project to set up 'Internet Protocol TV' in the country.

SLT subsidiary 'Visioncom (Pvt.) Ltd.' is operating the project, according to a senior SLT official.

Several officials involved in the fraud have been given transfers, while the fraud company and its local agent have been blacklisted.

A former top official at SLT had awarded the tender for the project to China's 'UTStarcom' in violation of tender procedures.

He, together with certain directors of SLT had prevailed over the objections to the deal, said the senior official.

The equipment needed for the project had been imported through 'Just In Time Group' (JIT), the Sri Lankan agents for 'UTStarcom.'

Therefore, 'Board of Investment' approved SLT had been forced to pay more than 400 m as customs tax for the goods.

The Chinese company had imported the equipment through its local agent in an attempt to conceal the actual prices of the import, said the senior SLT official.

The project equipment has been installed in such a way that the IPTV project could only be functional with 'UTStarcom' products.

Therefore, SLT will have to spend very high prices for spare parts to be bought from the Chinese company, said the senior SLT official.
