Firstly we want to wish all of you a Happy & Prosperous New Year 2016 to all our fellow bloggers & the management & staff at Dialog TV. We also apologize for the lack of blog updates over the past several months. We have been busy but we are not making that an excuse & we assure you that we will revitalize this blog during the course of this year with your help of course.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Last year has been a very happening year for Dialog TV, It all started almost one year ago in February 2015 with the MPEG4 upgrade of the entire platform & the addition of new channels to most of the existing packages. Basically all packs received some channels in one form or the other. Competition also played a part in this. Channels such as Ten Golf, etc which we were charged for additionally were released to the packages by the end of the year. Towards the latter part of the year we saw the addition of Sony Channel Asia & Z Living which have been since allocated to the Gold package. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However hopes of Fox Movies Premium or a quality movie channel were dashed when Dialog decided to add Sony Channel. All in all Dialog was most likely on Santa's Nice list last year.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Which brings us to the question, what will 2016 hold for Dialog TV? Well here is our 2 cents on this matter. Discovery Tamil which was under testing during December has vanished by the New Year. We believe it is still testing but is now scrambled for all. This means that either this month or the next this will too be added to the line up. Also there are a few blank slots & this we feel will be filled within the first quarter of this year. It's quite clear that even though the blank slots are within the channel spaces allocated for local channels it's not necessary that it will be a local channel that takes up that space. The addition of Z Living within the block allocated for local channels is a good example of this. A channel line up resorting of some sort either fully or partial may also be in the cards sometime this year after all empty slots are filled.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As for other plans, it's quite likely that Dialog might add some transponders soon with the intention of expanding their HD offerings. At present Dialog is very weak in that area & we are pretty sure that they will concentrate on it this year. Most high end users with HD televisions end up using Indian DTH platforms due to the numbers of HD Channels offered at a fraction of a cost compared to Dialog TV. Also we believe Dialog TV should drop the HD pack as a separate addition & merge it with the Gold pack. This will definitely increase the Dialog TV subscriber base. The Indian DTH's may be illegal but they are extremely prevalent in the market due to the HD offerings & the pricing differences.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Dialog TV is trying extremely hard to differentiate themselves from the others but the lack of HD comparitively seems to be their achilles heel. Well here's once again to a great 2016.</div>

As per reports reaching us a new Software Update is now available for Dialog TV Set Top boxes. We are not sure whether there are any visible improvements to the Set Top box functionality or whether the updates are mainly for internal processes.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In other news there has not been much happening on Dialog TV as in the way of filling up those blank test channels & no progress on adding a quality English movie channel. Sure enough HBO is a good movie channel in it's own right but there are some movies that don't premiere in it since the rights are held by Fox Movies Premium.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Looks like any further channel addition will happen after the RWC which is slated to conclude at the end of next month. Dialog will most likely target the festive season thereafter.</div>

With effect from yesterday Dialog TV added Sony KIX to Channel No. 77 which was previously occupied by Setanta SD feed. As a result this channel is now available FOC for all Gold package subscribers.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Previously Gold package subscribers had to pay Rs 99 to watch Setanta, however the replacement Sony KIX has been made available on a FOC basis, however this is only because KIX is used as a Hindi language broadcaster when it comes to events such as IPL, etc. Anyone who wants to watch Setanta has to now subscribe to the HD feed which comes at Rs 149/=. However if you are a rugby fan & doesn't have the HD decoder then you are at a loss. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In other new everyone is waiting with anticipation as when Dialog TV will add a quality movie channel to their line up.</div>

According to unconfirmed reports coming in Dialog TV will add Sony Kix within the next few days in order to broadcast the Rugby World Cup 2015. The broadcast right which have been purchased by Sony will cause both the sports channels Six & Kix to telecast the event. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We are not sure whether Sony Kix will be added only for the duration of the tournament, however with all the football rights moving to Sony Kix, it's best to make Sony Kix a permanent addition.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Whether the channel will replace another or occupy one the free slots is not yet confirmed. Rumors indicate that the channel maybe exclusive to Dialog TV however making it exclusive isn't good for the industry.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
As of midnight MGM Channel India which is ceasing transmissions has been replaced by AMC Asia which was formerly known as MGM Asia. Even though Dialog called it a rebrand it is actually a replacement. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The channel telecasts older movies like MGM did in addition to some brand new programming from the AMC stable such as "Fear The Walking Dead" & "Into the Badlands", this network is behind the hit TV series "Breaking Bad" & has also acquired Global broadcasting rights for the UK Sci-fi series "Humans".</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This channel is no doubt a great channel in comparison to the likes of Star World & Zee Cafe. AMC Asia is operated by AMC Networks Asia Pacific which also operates Sundance Channel Asia.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In other news there are reports that Dialog TV have removed Sony Six from the Pearl Pack & added channels such as Trace TV, CCM, Discovery Science, Outdoor Channel & Travel XP. however there is no confirmation of this from Dialog TV FB Page or it's web site.</div>

MGM Channel which was brought in by Dialog TV to replace Star Movies when it pulled out of this region will be discontinuing it's services during this month, probably by the end of the month. This leaves Dialog TV now looking for a replacement to the channel.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MGM which was renamed in most territories as AMC, retained the MGM branding in this region and are calling it quits. The channel will not be undergoing any rebranding in this region & will cease transmissions. There has been no official statement from MGM regarding this.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Dialog TV which was in a limbo over the replacement of Star Movies, find themselves in deeper trouble. Either Dialog will have to come sort of agreement with Star Movies & reintroduce the channel or work with Fox International Channels to introduce Fox Movies Premium. One stumbling block over the retransmission of Fox Movies Premium initially was the broadcast of UFC for which regional rights were held by Sony Six. Now since UFC has been moved to Fox Sports, we believe that it probably would be easier to secure the channel however with HBO Asia securing second run rights for some of the movies premiered on Fox Movies Premium, there might still be a problem.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also now Sony Six is acquiring rights for La Liga, FA Cup & Serie A football tournaments & this channel isn't available in this country. The channel will also be used to broadcast the SL vs India Cricket match in Hindi we believe but it also has some prime English content which will be missed. Dialog should secure this channel too.</div>

Recently Dialog TV have been sending SMS to Dialog TV subscribers offering the HD channels at special rates for a limited period of time. This comes hot on the heels of a free preview for HD channels which ended a week or so ago.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It seems that the adoption of the HD package among even those of the Gold package is low. It's a well known fact that those who really want the HD Channels are opting for the Indian DTH services where they offer a higher number of HD channels at almost half the prices offered by Dialog TV for the Gold package which doesn't have HD as standard.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Even though Dialog introduced HD several years ago they haven't been exactly been able to make inroads to the HD market. Most of the HD Channels are the same provided by the Indian operators except in the case of AXN HD & Setanta HD. Dialog doesn't have a dedicated HD movie channel now after the pull out of Star Movies HD. Many have been requesting for Fox Movies Premium but it does not look like that will ever materialize. Star World Premiere was a good addition but regional rights have been affecting the programming, however it's a channel that should be retained.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To solve Dialog's HD dilemma we propose that they add the HD channels to the Gold package FOC, this would prove to be a incentive to attract subscribers to the Gold package, in addition they will be able to better attract those who opt for Indian services. If this situation goes unchecked the Indian services will gain a strong foothold on the HD market in Sri Lanka.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The ball is in Dialog's court now, will they opt for making a short term profit or for benefiting in the long run</div>

Last night a software update has been made available to all Dialog TV subscribers who are using the HD Decoder. The update doesn't contain anything in terms of terms but is probably related to it's Internal functions. According to some SupremeSat 1 which was listed as a satellite is now no longer on the list.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This means that the rumored satellite switch over may not happen or has been delayed for now. Other than that nothing significant has happened on the platform as of late, there are a few more channel slots that Dialog has to fill, the most awaited being the movie channel on the slot allocated for movies. The is space for a few local channels which maybe filled by local channels or International ones.</div>

Dialog TV added Setanta Sports HD with effect from yesterday. This now becomes the third HD sports channel on the platform. The content is exactly similar to what is provided on the SD feed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The channel is presently available FOC due to the promotion celebrating 500,000 subscribers but we expect it to be more highly priced than the present HD channels. With the addition of this channel, Dialog has no transponder space for any more HD channels.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Slowly but surely Dialog is filling up it's empty slots, the most anticipated empty slot which is yet to be filled is the one that is in the movie channel group. Everyone hopes that it will be filled with Fox Movies Premium, although nothing can be confirmed as yet.</div>

According to information coming out of the Dialog TV camp, the Dialog TV subscriber base has hit 500,000 subscribers. This includes both post paid & prepaid subscribers. It's a good achievement by far taking. However the time to celebrate is short since they are facing increased competition which has no doubt done a lot of good for Dialog TV.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In other news Trace TV, Travel XP, Da Vinci Learning & Zee Cinema International have been added permanently to the channel line up with effect from yesterday.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Many are eagerly awaiting to see what new movie channel Dialog TV will add to the platform. Our hope is that Fox Movies Premium will be added to the line up on both HD & SD.</div>

In a surprising move on the 1st June, Dialog halted test channels, Trace TV, Travel XP, Da Vinci Learning & Zee Cinema International. These channels which went on air just a week or so ago vanished completely. Surprisingly all channel were made available for all packages which was more of a technical failure than a free preview.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now almost 4 days later, the channels are still unavailable. We wonder whether the competitor had anything to do with this. Since they did not pose as much a threat that Dialog expected they may have decided to launch these channels over a longer period of time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Only time will tell the true reason behind this move but Dialog stay on track cos if they are not on their guard, the day competition gets their act together, Dialog will be in big trouble.</div>

German based childrens educational channel "Da Vince Learning" has joined "Trace TV" & "Travel XP" on test mode on Dialog TV.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This channel focuses on children/teens educational needs & has many of Discovery Kids programming too. Unlike in this region Discovery Kids is not a dedicated cartoon channel in other parts of the world.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It looks more channels will join the lineup soon as Dialog TV looks to fill up all it's blank slots in the near future.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
With effect from last night Dialog TV have begun testing music channel TRACE URBAN (Ch. 42) & travel channel TRAVEL XP (Ch. 66). Both these channels are HD by default, however Dialog is downgrading them to SD & relaying them. Trace TV which originates from France telecasts Urban Music & Travel XP which is head quartered in India telecast travel related programming mainly focusing on Asia & has many programmes based on Sri Lanka too. In time to come we will likely see the channels being upgraded to HD once they have secured some transponders.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Unlike the past we feel that these channels will be made available to lower level packages & will not be limited to the highest Gold package.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It great to see Dialog TV add some interesting channels as of late after some lacklustre performance over the years.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It seems that the rumor mill hasn't subsided either on the launch of "MTV Europe" on Dialog TV in the near future & it may just come true.</div>

The last few days we have seen a spate of extra channels being allocated to Dialog TV packages such as Diamond & Pearl. These two were possibly some of the cheapest packages on Dialog TV & were designed to contain a bare minimum of channels.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In case you wondering why there was a sudden change of heart, it's because competition has decided on a launch date. We know that Dialog have dreaded this day for the past few years & have been taking positive steps towards this day. The recent addition of channels, conversion to MPEG4, as well as the allocation of all channels to the Gold Package instead of the creation of a super rich Vibranium Package (Vibranium is the metal used by Captain America on his shield :) ) were all indications that Dialog was preparing for the competition, however the recent allocation of channels to the lower packages suggest a bit of panicking too.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To be fair it should be said that the competition is most likely to include Indian feeds for channels for which we have traditionally enjoyed Asian feeds. Also we don't see too many reductions in the HD area because competition is not looking into HD at the moment.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Dialog indeed has an edge over the competition, in terms of Asian feeds, HD & channels that competition lacks. If Dialog can get Fox Movies Premium it will help them. These advantages that Dialog has over the competition is not hard for this competitor to achieve. Being touted as Asia's largest DTH provider it will be a simple task. Unless Dialog does something drastic, competition might just eat into Dialog's share of the market. Maybe not immediately but in the foreseeable future.</div>
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6519566873560806625.post-31794563507589295302015-04-30T08:37:00.003+05:302015-05-18T09:51:05.772+05:30Cartoon Network Asia returns<div style="text-align: justify;">
The on going Cartoon Network saga underwent another surprising turn with the return of Cartoon Network Asia to Dialog TV. This decision was taken most likely after several complaints were raised regarding the Indianised nature of Cartoon Network India which consists of Indian accent English, Hindi toons, etc.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This means that parents can now rest easy, however it seems that the Toonami channel is still running the Indian feed. So far the channel telecasts non-Indianised content which however will change very soon. Dialog will have to take steps to switch it to Toonami Asia. The other two channels of concern as Pogo & Nick channels which mostly telecast Hindi language programmes. Dialog should take steps to switch Pogo with Boomerang Asia & Nick India with Nick Asia takes steps to switch Disney Junior India with Disney Junior Asia or Disney Channel Asia.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With the impending entry of serious competition, Dialog should do these changes to differentiate themselves from competition. The switching of all kids channels to an Asian feed will keep them ahead of the competition.</div>

So are we seeing a move away from Indian feeds at Dialog TV? Seems so at least where available, with the decision of Dialog TV to replace Fox Crime India with Syfy Asia.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To be fair it should be stated that Fox Crime India is closing down over this weekend, for some Dialog is citing a withdrawal of South Asian rights as the reason however reports coming out of India suggest otherwise.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Some would have thought that Dialog TV will revert back to Fox Crime Asia, however the recent "regional rights" issues by Fox International Channels means that Dialog TV would like to steer clear from channels operated by Fox.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Universal operated Syfy, Diva, Universal & E do not have any Indian counterparts, so there is no regional issue when it comes to them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Syfy will be added either tomorrow or the day after (18th/19th) when Fox Crime ceases transmissions. Syfy judging by programming content doesn't seem to have great programming but have been improving with their content.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It seems that on Sony operated AXN, Warner TV & Universal have understood that Indian feeds don't work in Sri Lanka. AXN in spite of having an Indian feed continues to provide the Asian feed to Sri Lanka, the same can be said of Warner TV, Universal doesn't have any Indian feeds as yet. This is a good thing unlike Star India which is trying to trap Indian feeds to Sri Lanka.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However when it comes to cartoon channels we saw Asian feeds of Cartoon Network & Toonami being replaced by Indian feeds. This might be a blessing in disguise since the channels would be more adapted to the cultural norms in this region.</div>

It's clear that Dialog is targeting the expatriate community with channel. It's got English subtitles so no need to learn the language.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The package allocations for this channel aren't clear as yet. In other news Fox Crime India is closing down on April 19th. Dialog could revert back to the Asian feed but taking into consideration how Fox International Channels treat pay television markets like Sri Lanka, it's more or less unlikely. FX India could be a probable replacement but expect more blocks on programming.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With Star India launching two channels called FX HD & Star Movies Select HD, it seems unlikely that any of those channels will be available in Sri Lanka.</div>

Dialog started testing "Celestial Classic Movies" with effect from yesterday, the channel which telecasts mainly classical movies of Chinese, Japanese & Korean origin. The channel runs movies with English subtitles.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's hard to understand why Dialog added a channel such as this, the market for this type of channel is not clear as yet. Whether the channel will move past the testing phase & be added to the platform is yet to be seen.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
At the moment this channel looks to be on course for failing on Dialog TV unless they are planning to lure expatriates from that region who are residing in Sri Lanka.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However what most of us here want to see is a channel with similar content to Star Movies such as Fox Movies Premium on the platform.</div>

Over the last few days it has been noted that Star Channels have been restricting to programming to Sri Lanka citing territorial rights as an excuse. When it started on Star World Premiere HD with the blocking of "The Blacklist" it was assumed that this was due to AXN Asia also carrying the same programme. However this has now spread to "Sleepy Hollow" on Star World (and probably Star World Premiere) & "The Goldbergs" on Star World Premiere, not forgetting to mention "The Guardian" on Fox Crime. It should noted that these programmes are not available on the Asian feeds of channels on Dialog TV.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It looks certain that Star India is not interested in acquiring rights for Sri Lanka. This started with the pull out of Star Movies citing territorial rights.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Dialog TV should take immediate steps to rectify the issue, like we suggested some time back, lets kick Star India out of Sri Lanka for good. Dialog should approach Fox International channels and do the following replacements</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Bring in Fox Movies Premium SD & HD to compensate for the loss of Star Movies.</li>
<li>Replace Star World India with Star World Asia.</li>
<li>Replace Fox Crime India with Fox Channel Asia.</li>
</ul>
<div>
Already the Hindi channels on Star on Dialog TV are the Asian versions so it's best to extend this to the English channels as well.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Very soon at this rate Star Sports will stop acquiring rights for Sri Lanka when it comes to sporting events then it's time to move to Fox/Star Sports Asia.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Either Star India is not happy about Asian feeds being available to Sri Lanka or they have suddenly employed someone who doesn't like Sri Lanka. Anyway this maybe a blessing in disguise with the ability to break free of Indian feeds altogether.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The question is, what will Star do on their channels which may be available on the Indian operated competitor to Dialog TV who will enter the market soon. Most likely the same or give them an unfair advantage.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's time to start a campaign #kickStarIndiaoutofSriLanka </div>

With effect from yesterday Dialog TV have reverted to the India feed of Cartoon Network. Cartoon Network feeds have been switched before too but this time it looks permanent. This is probably not a decision of Dialog TV rather seems to of Turner broadcasting that runs the channel. Cartoon Network Asia website has been blocked too & redirects to the Indian website.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The other channel from the same operator Pogo was Indian & will always be Indian since the channel is available only in India, Toonami has a Indian feed too but we still continue to receive the Asian feed. The difference between the two being that the Asian feed broadcasts Marvel & DC comic toons whereas the Indian one concentrates on DC comic toons & Anime. Marvel comic toons in India are part of Disney XD which is not available in Sri Lanka. Hopefully Turner doesn't switch Sri Lanka to Toonami India.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In other news it seems that the MTV Asia story has not materialised, however it looks like Dialog TV have halted adding new channels until the World Cup is over. We can expect new channels to be added after the World Cup promotion has run it's course.</div>

According to reports Dialog TV will test MTV Asia on Ch. No 48 commencing today or within the next few days. Subscribers have been asking for good quality English Music channel for a long and it looks like those requests are bearing fruit.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MTV Asia will exist alongside MTV India. MTV India on Dialog TV is a non Indian feed since the Indian feed is moving away from music to be a general entertainment channel. MTV Asia also has music content alongside from reality programming.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In other news the test transmission of new channels introduced on reshuffling day will end on Feb 28th. However channels introduced this thereafter might continue testing for just a bit longer.</div>

As of yesterday Dialog had another 3 channels on test, namely Disney Junior, Star Gold & CNBC. The Disney Junior feed is Indian while the Star Gold & CNBC feeds are non Indian & most likely to be Asian. We are unable to confirm whether all three channels will be made available to existing packages, although that would be the wise thing to do. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Previous experience tells that if a channel is allocated as an add-on the number of people activating it will be less unless it's a specialized sports channel. The add-on system was tested with Discovery Turbo & Discovery Science ultimately due to lack of subscriptions Dialog had to add them to existing packages. It worked with Setanta Sports since it's a specialized sports channel, the same thing is to be tried with Ten Golf & it may not be as successful as Setanta. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Earlier even Bloomberg was an add-on and due to low subscription the channel was added to existing packages.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's sad to note that there is a small segment that is of the view that local FTA channels is the way forward for Dialog TV. That way is the way forward to the grave for Dialog if they decide to listen and take that route. Eventually we believe that Dialog will have all the local FTA channels, however with present capacity issues that is not the priority and should not be made the priority. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's actually great work by Dialog to add 120 channels with relatively small subscriber base, we usually compare Dialog with these Indian DTH providers who have a base of over a million. We know that we tend we to be very hard critics of Dialog TV but lets give credit where it's due and this time they did good and kuddos to Dialog TV for the steps taken to improve service quality. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That being said Dialog should add all new channels to existing packages and taken quick steps to improve the quality of Varnam TV which is quite bad at present.</div>

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6519566873560806625.post-52712942432531658112015-02-24T08:53:00.002+05:302015-02-25T11:52:08.393+05:30Disney Junior testing & more<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to reports it seems that Disney Junior is now testing on channel number 55. We are not sure whether this is the Indian feed or Asian feed as yet. Also Siyatha TV & Varnam TV were added to all packages even old ones that are not promoted by Dialog TV anymore. This is good since they have been taking some heat over the last few days for with holding the channels from those packages.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It seems that gradually the advertised CNBC, etc will be coming on board. The movie channel with content similar to Star Movies is missing yet. Hopefully it's Fox Movies Premium but nothing is certain. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also Dialog should not waste this valuable transponder space on any more local FTA channels since they will take the road that will end up in total loss. There are some requests but the business from local FTA ones will be less. If Dialog have no capacity then they can add those channels but Dialog has capacity issues like any other DTH provider. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There is no point in starting local channels specifically for the platform unless some sort of quality can be maintained, as we have seen in the recent past that's hard to do. Most of those who request for loads of local channels either do not have a Dialog TV connection or subscribe to per day TV which represents only a small portion of the DTV subscribers.</div>

It has been quite a day for Dialog TV & their subscribers, since today after several years of waiting Dialog TV fully converted broadcast systems to MPEG4. Now they are running MPEG4 DVB-S1 for SD channels & MPEG4 DVB-S2 for HD channels. This has naturally resulted in a increase in capacity which results in free space forn many new channels. And yes they did deliver by adding. The following channels have been added.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="background-color: #f6f7f8; color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 15.3599996566772px; text-align: left;">Dialog Now</span></li>

<li><span style="background-color: #f6f7f8; color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 15.3599996566772px; text-align: left;">Zoom</span></li>
<li><span style="background-color: #f6f7f8; color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 15.3599996566772px; text-align: left;">TLC HD World</span></li>
<li><span style="background-color: #f6f7f8; color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 15.3599996566772px; text-align: left;">Ten HD</span></li>
</ul>
We see one promo channel right at the top of the list. The most notable new channels are Varnam TV, Outdoor Channel, Ten Golf & TLC HD World since the others have been on Dialog TV at one time or the other before being booted out in favour of some other. However they do have some more empty channel slots which we believe maybe reserved for some the other channels they advertised such as Disney Junior, CNBC & Star Gold. In the Dialog facebook page we did see that Dialog are also planning to introduce a movie channel with similar content to Star Movies, it maybe Fox Movies Premium or something else.<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
At the moment all the new channels are freely available to all packages for a period of one week. These channels except Ten Golf are being added freely to the Gold package and will be distributed to a few of the other packages too. Regarding Ten Golf, Dialog will have to tread carefully since information coming out the the Zee-Ten camp indicates that they are going in for a Star style rebranding and will also rebrand specialty channels such as Ten Cricket, Ten Action & Ten Golf making the Ten Sports 1 to 4. Ten HD will remain until they launch 4 HD channels to mirror all existing channels. Ten Golf is being Rs 299/= which is much more than Setanta and also more expensive that any HD channel.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We see some blank slots being strategically placed among the channel categories such as Music, Movies, Hindi, Kids, local, etc. These seem to indicate we will see more channels added in these areas soon. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There are some concerns that recording for some channels is being disabled such Star World Premiere HD, hopefully this was a mistake and will be sorted out. Addition we are told that Star Plus was named Zee TV & vice verse, hopefully thats corrected too. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What's next for Dialog? Well sooner or later, Dialog is going to run out space again and this time round they will need to acquire new transponder space. We believe Dialog TV will try to negotiate with local satellite company SupremeSat and switch satellites. However that's likely to take a year or two judging by history or they may just simply make use of a free transponder on the existing one. We however are told that the present satellite is full.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

Dialog informed subscribers yesterday of a urgent upgrade commencing from today Feb 6th right upto Feb 9th. Due to this urgent upgrade the channels History TV18, Discovery Turbo and Fashion TV will not be available during the above mentioned dates. Further Setanta & E channel will shift to different channel positions during this time. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So what is this upgrade, we haven't the faintest clue but it seems that it has something to do with the world cup. With Star launching another 2 HD channels and taking their HD channel tally to 4, basically mirroring HD versions of all 4 Star Sports SD channels, Dialog will have a tough time keeping up with trying to broadcast the matches in HD. So maybe Dialog is planning to time share a few more HD channels with a Star Sports channel during "LIVE" cricket.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Any regardless Dialog should take serious steps to expand their channel base since sometime in the next few months, Ten Sports is going to rebrand all it's channels. Basically there will no longer be Ten Sports, Ten Cricket, Ten Action, Ten Golf, it's rumoured they will follow a Star Sports style Ten Sports 1, 2, 3 & 4 and follow it up quite soon with a Ten Sports set of HD channels.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's frustrating to see a local operator such as Dialog TV, several steps behind when it comes to regional DTH broadcasters. When Dialog is working on HD LIVE cricket feeds, other regional broadcasters are talking of 4K broadcasts.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Wait is Dialog doing a 4K upgrade? A laughable thought though. We hope that these steps are actually taken to switch the entire platform to MPEG4 which should give some breathing capacity to add a few more channel until the transponder bug rises again. So Dialog you urgently need new transponders & a total switch to MPEG4. What ever happened to their plan to switch to SupremeSAT.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Please keep us updated on the latest on Dialop TV as the days progress and we hope we see visible results of this "urgent upgrade" soon. </div>
