Cartoon Network, Nick feeds changed

It seems that Dialog TV has changed the feeds for Cartoon Network and Nick with effect from yesterday. Until yesterday Dialog TV have been relaying Nick India and Cartoon Network India the only difference being that Cartoon Network Asia was available for a few weeks several months ago and then Cartoon Network India was reintroduced. However on Dialog Mobiles Cartoon Network Asia has been available for the past several years. In a move that would bring smiles to faces of many children and parents alike Dialog TV is now relaying Cartoon Network Asia and we believe that the Nick feed is that of Nick Pakistan which is available via Ary Digital Network.

Cartoon Network Asia is 100% English but most programmes on Nick Pakistan is available in English with some programmes being available in Hindi. However this version of Nick is much better since Nick India was almost 100% Hindi. According to unconfirmed information Pogo is also said to be in English but we are unable to confirm this since Pogo has some non dual language which means that Pogo will continue to carry full Hindi as well as some English programming. There is nothing much Dialog TV can do about Pogo since this channel does not have any other feed and is available only in the subcontinent. The best Dialog TV can do is to introduce the Asian feeds of the Disney channels.

We hope that this change on Dialog TV is permanent and viewers will welcome this change which is long overdue on Dialog TV.

Please keep us updated on the latest on Dialog TV as the days progress.

Next can we get asian/orginal feeds for

Discovery, Nat Geo and History.

Some times there is indian tele marketing crap running for several hours (every morning and noon)

poor_creature_hurt said...

Yep Prasnna is right!

Now we need the original feeds of Discovery, Net Geo and History.

If DTV is planning to add more channels (which it should), super sports series is wonderful. I know it is expensive, but they can at least make it available at an extra cost even.

BBC entertainment is another good channel.

We don't have to be euphoric about these changes as I still think DTV needs a long way to go in order to really serve the customers.

But on CN and Nick, this is a very good move and we appreciate it.

Agent - Zer08 said...

@ Prasanna/Deshal -
before that u should check wether the channles are avalable for south asian reagion. (footprint).

poor_creature_hurt said...

@ transporter
If DTV can negotiate with the companies who broadcast the cannels, I should not think that there is a problem. It is a matter of whether you have the real business need.

I personally know that you can take Multichoice package here in SL with original feeds on Discovery, History and Nat Geo.

So it is matter of business negotiation ability. Not technicality.

Agent - Zer08 said...

@ Deshal:

It is a Technical problem. Most of the Europe channels available for Singapore, Thailand & Philip and not for south Asian region. Still u can get the pay per view.

#1 FX Broker - Shares Mag 2007 (Adds details, quotes, quarterly loss) By Shihar Aneez COLOMBO, Nov 13 (Reuters) - Sri Lanka's top mobile phone
operator, Dialog Telekom DIAL.CM, a unit of Telekom Malaysia
(TLMM.KL: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), on Thursday posted its first quarterly loss since
going public in 2005. The company lost 192.5 million Sri Lanka rupees ($1.75
million) in the quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with 2.43
billion net profit in the same period last year. January-September group net profit slid 86 percent to 1.03
billion rupees ($9.36 million) from 7.3 billion rupees in the
same period a year ago. Overall group turnover for the period
rose 9 percent to 27.4 billion rupees. The company's shares, which make up more than 9 percent or
57 billion rupees ($517.8 million) of the market capitalisation,
ended flat at 7.25 rupees, before the release. The company said results were hit by a rise in costs, driven
mainly by inflation, up 24 percent year on year. Energy and
network costs also rose 48 percent from a year ago. "The cost structure of the company is very high," Mohandas
Thangarajah, an analyst from First Guardian Equities in Colombo
said. "Its telecom sector is not making profits, while its pay
TV and broadband will need more time to make profits." Net profit plummeted 78 percent in the April-June quarter,
while it fell 54 percent in the January-March quarter. Shares in Dialog Telekom hit a life low of 6.50 rupees on
Oct. 8, a drop in half of its value since it reported the
second-quarter fall in profits in August. It had already lost its status as the biggest company on the
exchange by market capitalisation on Sept. 18. The company cut tariffs and introduced low-cost mobile phone
packages to encourage customers to talk more amid high inflation
and declining consumer spending power. Chief Executive Officer Hans Wijayasuriya said in October
the firm had no plans for a share buyback. He blamed high interest rates, high inflation and a global
credit crunch for the share's fall, as well as squeezed profit
margins. The company had earlier said renewed fighting between the
state and Tamil Tiger rebels has led to a drop in tourism, which
in turn had affected roaming revenues. Business has also suffered from the military switching off
sections of the network in conflict areas from time to time. With more than 5 million subscribers, Dialog still has the
largest share of Sri Lanka's mobile market. Rivals include Sri Lanka Telecom Ltd.'s SLTL.CM Mobitel,
Hutchison Telecommunications International Ltd. (2332.HK: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and
Millicom International Cellular SA (MICC.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), while Bharti Airtel
(BRTI.NS: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) is to start operation by the end of this year. (Edited by Bryson Hull and David Cowell)

neilw said...

Finally DTV has done something good. Thank You.
No doubt that DTV should have new set plans for every channel they introduce at a reasonable price. For instance not many would pay even 50/- each to get UTV or Bloomberg !
They could have easily added Bloomberg free to all if not for PREMIUM customers.
Quality of pictures of local channels is still poor.
Whats bad about all this is DTV does not seem to care a bit about the problems of its customers.

Techsavy said...

NeilW,

The problem with Local Channels is that almost all operators receive Local Channels on VHF / UHF and from that to covert to the Digital signals will go through multiple encoding /decoding of the signal adding noice to the signal that leads to poor video quality. Operators will have to use some other technology may be with extra cost.

@ transporter
dialog group experienced net loos during september quarter! whwre are your 5 million customers?

@ others
this is very significant. before this their profit was in billions, not even millions. losses are mainly due to broadband and DTV. mobile profit is also small. this will affect DTV and they may sell it if this continue in the 4th quarter.

Agent - Zer08 said...

@ Sanjan,

We know & saw da press report. As u (or the report) said the losses are mainly due to broadband and DTV & nothing wrong with GSM & all 5 million users are fine, include me.

This happened because of the inflation of share market & the country/world economic & Business has also suffered from the military switching off sections of the network in conflict areas from time to time. Pls go through the article still if ur confused.

Why ur not talking about ur IPTV?

Millions lost to SLT in IPTV project & the main reason is several officials involved in the fraud have been given transfers, while the fraud company and its local agent have been blacklisted.

Make sure Dialog loss NOT because of F-R-A-U-D… hahaha….

sanjan said...

@ transporter
if dialog to have 5 million customers you should have atleast 2 million sims with you!
reasons like inflation, high interest rates and millitory swithing off of towers affect only dialog? what a joke! compared to previous 3 months was there a big change in either broadband or DTV for dialog to loose profits? no, my friend compared to last 3 months only number of mobile customers reduced significantly! thats why there is a net loss. eventhough BB and DTV is loosing the reason behiend net loss is the reduction in mobile customer base. its the reality, not any other economic theory!
thats why SLT with all the above problems plus big fraud in iptv, is still profitable.

Anonymous said...

This will never be a eye opener to dialog. We can undersatnd it easily from the coments from Hans on sunday papers (and also from attitude of DTV guys like transporter and indi).

We have repeatedly tried to convince DTV that their policy is unfair and they have cheated us with the introduction of super premium package. But they never understood. Now that there is a good option (IPTV 2 for one), it is payback time to DTV.

Way to go guys, next quarter you will be able to post figures in billions (not millions). Ofcourse not profit.

Looser said...

Ha ha ha

sanjan said...

@ janaka
you are 100% correct.
management of a company should be able to find out reasons when going is tough. but what dialog management does is giving several outside reasons for their slide. and some of their loyal fools beleive those reasons like switching off of towers because of security reasons! if this is correct it means dialog is getting profits from terorists!

poor_creature_hurt said...

This is a very important forum. This could mak or break DTV.

Management of most of the companies in SL thinks they can just give people any crap and get away. DTV was also the same.

But this forum has REALLY excerted pressure on them to take action. But they have so far to go.

There are people other than genuine DTV customers here, promoting stuff and changing the direction of the discussion so DTV does not in the soptlight here.

It's okey to promote anything as long as it is based on geunine information and help us to be knowledged on the industry and services.

However, let's not get caught in the trap of changing the direction of the discussions, making things easy for DTV.

Let's keep the focus of the discussion here. Don't let people with "other intentions" change the direction of the discussions.

Techsavy said...

Guys,

I dont believe that Dialog made losses due to shut down of thetransmitters in N& E as it happened to all Mobile & CDMA operators. All are in rough waters due to competition & Price war in addition to economic situation. But at the ebd of the day all the customers are getiing the benefit of competition. It looks like Pay TV is entering the same with latest offers from SLT.

Good time for customers has come with competition.

Dialog making losses is due to many reasons. It is not due to only one reason.

However during difficult times the companies who can retain and keep their customer base, loyal to them, can score more than others.

This is the area Dialog as a whole failed. They never aprrciated the loyalty of the cutomers,at Diaglog Telcom or Dialog TV.

So they are reaping what they sow. There is no reason to sympathize. If DTV doesnt appreciate and value our loayalty why should we be loyal to them. From my ponit of view, I dont see any reason.

Again SLT IPTV promoters...!!!

Srilanka telecom Mobitel / SLT IP TV. Using Dialog GSM....!!

JPL 244 said...

Now IPTV is giving 2 for price of 1. They give 2 Peotv connections for 9950+tax.

The rental is 1000, which includes HBO channels, Time shift TV and video on demand for free of charge for 1 year. (See Sunday Times)

Now it is time for DTV to reduce the package tariffs and connection fee (as a Chirstmas offer). They have to do it soon, otherwise the Uphara saga will repeat for DTV as well.

Since DTV marketting does not have the power to think a marketting strategy, let me propose the following. DTV is welcome to adopt it, but it has to be implemented soon.

1. Keep the connection for two at 12500 but give service for 3 months without a rental.

2. Reintroduce the 100 package (ideally with some more channels). Make the rental Rs. 100 to all Lite pakage customers.

3. Revert the rental (for existing and new) of super package to 500, great package to 900 and value package to 1400.

4. Make the value package the premium (and include all channels to it)

5. You may cahrge additional for future facilities like HDTV, interactive services etc. as and when you introduce them.

and most importantly

6. try to get English feeds (Nat GEO, Discoversy, MTV, History, NICK, etc)

7.Reintroduce the channels that were taken off, ANIMAX, Zone Reality, ZEE music, FTV etc)

Think of increasing the customer base to make profit. Try to EARN loyal customers. Ripping the customers is not the way forward.
