Looking back to 2015 & looking forward to 2016

Firstly we want to wish all of you a Happy & Prosperous New Year 2016 to all our fellow bloggers & the management & staff at Dialog TV. We also apologize for the lack of blog updates over the past several months. We have been busy but we are not making that an excuse & we assure you that we will revitalize this blog during the course of this year with your help of course.

Last year has been a very happening year for Dialog TV, It all started almost one year ago in February 2015 with the MPEG4 upgrade of the entire platform & the addition of new channels to most of the existing packages. Basically all packs received some channels in one form or the other. Competition also played a part in this. Channels such as Ten Golf, etc which we were charged for additionally were released to the packages by the end of the year. Towards the latter part of the year we saw the addition of Sony Channel Asia & Z Living which have been since allocated to the Gold package.

However hopes of Fox Movies Premium or a quality movie channel were dashed when Dialog decided to add Sony Channel. All in all Dialog was most likely on Santa's Nice list last year.

Which brings us to the question, what will 2016 hold for Dialog TV? Well here is our 2 cents on this matter. Discovery Tamil which was under testing during December has vanished by the New Year. We believe it is still testing but is now scrambled for all. This means that either this month or the next this will too be added to the line up. Also there are a few blank slots & this we feel will be filled within the first quarter of this year. It's quite clear that even though the blank slots are within the channel spaces allocated for local channels it's not necessary that it will be a local channel that takes up that space. The addition of Z Living within the block allocated for local channels is a good example of this. A channel line up resorting of some sort either fully or partial may also be in the cards sometime this year after all empty slots are filled.

As for other plans, it's quite likely that Dialog might add some transponders soon with the intention of expanding their HD offerings. At present Dialog is very weak in that area & we are pretty sure that they will concentrate on it this year. Most high end users with HD televisions end up using Indian DTH platforms due to the numbers of HD Channels offered at a fraction of a cost compared to Dialog TV. Also we believe Dialog TV should drop the HD pack as a separate addition & merge it with the Gold pack. This will definitely increase the Dialog TV subscriber base. The Indian DTH's may be illegal but they are extremely prevalent in the market due to the HD offerings & the pricing differences.

Dialog TV is trying extremely hard to differentiate themselves from the others but the lack of HD comparitively seems to be their achilles heel. Well here's once again to a great 2016.

Please keep us updated on the latest on Dialog TV as the days progress.

I'm still waiting for more channels to be recordable. Since many years dialog promised on their website that more channels will be added to the recordable list. But nothing happened. And since star Movies was removed there is not one channel with recent english movies that can be recorded. This is really a big negative.

I think DIALOG Television needs to sign a JV with a new company such as Astro/Singtel to improve its services.A company which has over 500,000 subscribers can develop ensuring that the customers gain the maximum benefits for the charge paid. For example, they have to first change their Set Top Box ensuring that MOD services are provided via an Ethernet cable as Tata Sky has done to its Indian subscribers. Active services can be introduced like the one similar in Peo Tv.Top movie channels such as Fox Movies Premium can be added.

I feel the very nature of some Sri Lankan companies; to put profit over innovation and customer satisfaction is to blame. We are literally forced to be contempt with whatever these companies provide us, be it satisfactory or not.

Its not that these companies lack the ability to be innovative, but don't prefer to do so. I feel the country as a whole should encourage innovation, keep up with competition and discourage prejudice.

it is sad that Dialog TV decided to remove NHK world. The only channel that had in depth information about Japanese culture. It also had some very mellow and laid back informative programs about the Asian region and rest of the world.
I guess it must be a regional block or something similar to that because Peo TV doesn't carry the channel either.

Star World
Games of Thrones blocked
According to the EPG the series "Games of Thrones", which will start tomorrow, is listet as "block content - Games of Thrones"
So for the next 10 weeks we will have again about 4 hours every day incl. the repeats, which we can't watch in Sri Lanka.
Good job dialog and Star World

Today in the morning, there wasn't a single channel which worked in DTV. Some said it was a system update. I think over 1 hour. But didn't saw any official statements about this down time from Dialog.

Unknown said...

Yes. It was more than one hour. And the worst thing was that you couldn't reach dialog via the Hotline

When do the new channels show up on the Dialog TV set top box? Does anyone know? Most will be new FTA channels I think. All are supposed to be SD. Channel hungry SL customers will like this, but I prefer quality to quantity ...............

Revox said...

Sorry Guys, The test channels have vanished on the new Transponder.....
Probably only a test.

Check this out.....

It is very unfair that dialog has offered Setanta in HD package only. If all the other HD channels are in SD why can't they give Setanta in normal package? This is really unfair

So what's the news on DTV test channels? Does the admin or anyone know what the plans are (or rather what the rumors are)? DTV forum is virtually dead with no new posts for 4 1/2 months!

Mario said...

.....and the same thread has been going for the last 4 months as well... DTV seems to be also stuck with these test channels slotted in between !! One can only hope that FOX movies premium is somewhere in there too...

Revox said...

Vishkid and Mario this blog is not given much attention by admin as he/they is/are running a FB page. It gives the latest news and is very active. I am not a big FB fan but is compelled to log on to it as more and more stuff is on it. I've been reading this blog from CBNsat days and visit it almost everyday, but now come to realise that its a waste of time and its much better to read it whenever I log on to FB, which is once or twice a week.

‪#‎DialogTV‬ to launch a new channel called 7th Circuit, this evening. Rumours are that this will be a VOD service but it may more or less be a normal channel.

Unknown said...

‪#‎DialogTV‬ successfully kills Pay Per View prior to it's launch by pricing it at Rs 399/= for a 3 day validity period. Looks like it will follow the path of recent premiere channels like "Ten Golf" which was priced at Rs 200/= & made free. The same before for Discovery Science & Turbo too.
Ultimately the channel pricing would be reduced if no one subscribes to it. The channel should be made available at no more than Rs 20/= since it will run only one movie at a time for days on end. After all these days we can watch a 3D movie for cheaper!

Unknown said...

According to the dialog self care app it's 399 Rs. for one month

Unknown said...

Self Care App is wrong. It's only for 3 days. It's Pay Per View, so cannot be valid for one month.

Unknown said...

Someone should tell this dialog. And by the way "pay per view" is like the name suggests for one time viewing. You order the date and time and then you can watch the movie one time.
I hope dialog can afford the law suits from the customers who activate this channel for a monthly rate of 399 and later it turns out that they have to pay 399 for 3 days. Assumed the rumors are right.

Since the Rugby Championship is nearing it is high time for Dialog to offer Setanta Channel for non HD viewers. All the other Cable tv providers in SL (PEO and LBN ) are offering it to all their customers. This is real dirty business by Dialog. If all the other sports channels are offered in HD/Non HD sections how can they restrict this only. This is real discrimination.

OK... This eventually a dead forum.

Nothing appears new or no new posts from the admin.

But this special day, I would like to remind few of our earliest bloggers, who came here to share, unify and protest.

Yes.. Anybody could hardly remember, Today is the 10th anniversary of the Black day. The forceful shutdown of CBNSat.

10 year anniversary of 06.06.06. Remembering everybody gathered here for a noble cause.

Wishing DTV all the best. Thanks for everything guys.. That's some rough journey to remember.

I'm really disappointed that I saw today Nat Geo HD going to remove from 1 Sep 2019 & replacing Sony Six HD. We love Nat Geo HD, what a rubbish of Sony six HD.

Please try to keep Nat Geo HD, Any DTH package has Nat Geo HD.

If you do so most of the customers will go off from Dialog TV.

Think twice

Have you all observed local channels picture quality is very poor, I think encoding is more then the limits. So when a moving screen with more people, quality is useless. You can observed this on Hiru TV, Mega Star program. Like old days VCD quality.

This is what I observed on most of the local channels.
