Olympic Request

Subscribers of Dialog TV are eargerly awaiting to see whether Dialog will introduce the DD channels which will be broadcasting the Beijing Olympic Games.

Since the 4th Transponder is now on and a duplicate "The Buddhist" channel has been replaced by a duplicate "CNN" which is viewable by subscribers of all packages. If you do not have the fourth transponder then we suggest that you do a rescan on your decoder which will then pickup the fourth transponder and then you will be able to watch CNN until Dialog encrypts it.

We hope that this 4th transponder will be used to telecast the Olympic Games. Those who want to watch the Olympic's should call Dialog TV and ask them to temporarily introduce the DD channels for only the Olympic Games. Temporarily because the next games will be shown on ESPN Star Sports.

Please keep us updated on the latest on Dialog TV as the days progress.

DTV is crap. They should introduce AXN beyond and other english chanels instead of cheap indian chanels. When we call they say they always give the benefit to the customer. Then why set plans have chanels that different from each other. on set plan sometimes we have to pay twice to the same channel cos its listed on 2 sets. why cant they simply put a price on singal channel instead os sets.

@ilham-the boss,

where can I get new MPEG 4 Set Top Box for the DISH TV connection?

What will be the cost?

SRI LANKA MUSIC & CRICKET said...

HI, ILHAM - The Boss You telling DISH TV Going to lonch MPEG 4, This one Cant be Lat week DISH TV Manading Director

Mr Jawahar Goel, Dish TV Ltd, said, "Our analysis shows that apart from broadcasting more channels per transponder, MPEG 4 doesn't offer any advancement in the quality of picture in comparison to MPEG 2 technology as claimed by some quarters. This is what we wanted to communicate to the ministry. On the other hand, given the present pricing, MPEG 4 boxes are around 50% costlier than MPEG 2 boxes, and in dollar terms, the difference comes out to be about $20. This will make subscriber acquisition for DTH players expensive and also hurt their bottomlines more".

Your News Not True, This people can improve there marketing Sri Lanka, It;s Ok But MPEG4, Story Not True.

What is the satellite information?
Do they have up linking facilities like Dialogtv?OR Dialogtv going to do it for them?Why RUPAVAHINI couldn't start a world service until now?If Srlakvahini,Tvlanka & Sritv can do it?.

@illham the boss,
If Dishtv marketing in Srilanka! Why can't they add Srilankan local channels in to their package? Dishtv/India VS Dialogtv/Malaysia.
Dialogtv can win with more tamil channels,& by bringing down the price.

Anybody have an idea about why DTV suspended the set plan 12 (TS,SM,POGO). Customer service people have no idea about this (obviously they dont tell). Now if we want Ten sport we have to pay Rs.600 and if we want Star movies we have to go get the whole package. This is so pathetic. We have to raise our voice against these kind of decisions.

Kaminda Berugoda said...

Blog admin(s), can we have a seperate thread on this.

Ryan said...

Kaminda,

If this is true about the set plan 12, Maybe this is why they disconnected Set plan 12 which I had subsribed for without my permission ????

So that I have to pay more for it.

@DLR
N95 is enriched with built-in GPS Receiver and therefore you can pin-point any place in Sri Lanka. But as for Maps, Sorry mate, there seems to have no support on this feature,
Even in India, only 6 or so areas are under the mapping section.
Pl check N95 portion on NOKIA for further information.
.
Also make sure to check your phone's IMEI on www.numberingplans.com for genuinity.

@Rupavahini,
In the period of the Starting of DTV there was no uplink facilities for SLRC, But indeed now they have a better transponder allocation as well as uplink facility rather DTV (i think) and they have the ability to uplink.
.

Dish Tv Connections in sri lanka should be very low rather 1 mln and 7,800 is a fair guess.
.
As for TP4 well still waiting...

Tharu said...

@ Rupavahini

If it's true, it's a great news...

Kaminda Berugoda said...

Ryan,
It must be the case,and the customer care is clueless about the reasons or commencing dates. May be they tring to sell full packages for people who wants to watch Cricket. But its a very bad business strategy in terms of customer's point of view. All these things happens just because of the less compition to DTV. I think its time for a some good satellite tv company to come forward and give a sweat to DTV.

Unknown said...

@DLR,

N95 can use the Nokia Maps (Ver.2) application- can download and install if not already installed from Nokia web site or smart2go.com

Sri lanka map can be downloaded via GPRS or 3G. but it is primitive at most- shows the major routhes (A class roads) and Railway lines and some waterways. Also the major cities Colombo, Kandu, Galle, Matara etc and also places like Katunayaka and Ratmalana airports. evn shows Kotikawatta- but dont think its very accurate as Jayawardanapura is shown on being close to Galle Road! But an imprvement over Nokia Maps version 1.

Version 1 was not as detailed as the present version-so hopefully they will keep on improving. Downloadable maps like the ones available for Singapore, Thailand etc not yet available for Srilanka. Such maps are highly detailed- they even give the telephone number of a given address!

Version 2 has google earth like Satelite mapmode where the satelite image is shown. but is very data intensive (unless you are on Wifi mode you'll get a heavy bill!) pinpoints your location on the map when you get a GPS lock.

I have a 6110 Navigator with Navigator application in addition to Nokia Maps.

Airtel to launch Lanka services this December: CEO

COLOMBO: Leading Indian mobile phone operator Airtel has said it will commence its operations in Sri Lanka this year.

"We are planning to launch in December this year. We are well within line of the plan," the CEO of Airtel Lanka Amali Nanayakkara said.
With mobile penetration in Sri Lanka is estimated at around 30 per cent and growing at a rate of approximately 2 million mobile users per annum, Airtel is looking at cornering a high market share in the next few years, industry experts here said.

It will, however, have to compete with the Telekom Malaysia Owned Dialog Telecom, the largest operator in Sri Lanka, Tigo Owned by Millicom International Mobile, Hutch Owned by Hutchison Telecommunications, Sri Lanka Telecom Owned Mobitel, they added.

"We welcome competition, because it helps all players to be on their toes. There will be synergies which they bring in very similar to ours and Airtel will also have expertise and synergies which it will bring to the market. It is going to be a very competitive industry," Nanayakkara said.
Sri Lanka now has 4 million fixed access subscribers, 8 million mobile and 200,000 internet and email subscribers.
Nanayakkara told the Daily News & Analysis of India that Airtel had a vision of being the most admired brand in the country.
"Our vision, therefore, is very much in line with that. That requires your services to be competitive as well as preferred. We are gearing ourselves for a launch, which will meet that kind of an expectation. That takes time," she said.

In March Airtel Lanka, a subsidiary of Indian telecom giant Bharti Airtel, signed a 100-million dollars investment agreement with the Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka to begin its operations in the Island Country.
The agreement was the second phase of the companys commitment to invest 200 million dollars in Sri Lanka over the next 5 years, the board said.

Nanayakkara said Airtel Lanka had a good support from all government authorities including the regulator, Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) in Sri Lanka.
The company Airtel Lanka acquired a licence last year to provide 2G and 3G services in Sri Lanka and entered into collaboration with Hong Kong based Huawei Technologies for the purpose.
