Dialog TV software upgrade

An announcement was made last night bu Dialog TV regarding a software upgrade that will take place over commencing today (May 29th) until the end of this month. The upgrade will take place at specific time intervals and will take approximately 10 min to complete. PLEASE DO NOT POWER OFF THE DECODER DURING THE UPGRADE. If the upgrade takes place while you are watching your favourite program then hard luck to you.

Anyway after checking out a manually upgraded MPEG4 decoder we have noticed the following changes.
  1. Pause button works. The problems in the pause caused by the previous upgrade have been solved but on the downside the pause also causes the sound to get cut off which is very annoying for those who want to pause the picture but may want to sound to continue playing. This is something for Dialog to consider when carrying out the next update.
  2. It is now possible to have a small screen preview when you're browsing through all the channels like in the silver decoder.
  3. New favourite channels list.
  4. The zoom button performs much better now but then there is no point in this since once the zoom is presses the pixelations increase.
This update seems to be performing better that all the updates carried out by Dialog TV so far, and hopefully the trend continues. Please post in the comments section any further changes in the decoder after the software upgrade that we may have not noticed.

Instructions to update.
  • MPEG4 Decoder : In the menu select "info" and click press "ok" after selecting the "software upgrade" option.
  • CBNsat Decoder : In the menu select "IRD Upgrade" and press "ok".
  • Dialog TV Silver Decoder : In the menu select "Installation" and press "ok" after selecting "OTA Download".
Please keep us posted on the latest on Dialog TV as the days progress.

"If the upgrade takes place while you are watching your favourite program then hard luck to you." - ?????? I asked from dialog TV : they said it does not matter if the decoder is on (while we watch programs) or in stand by mode.

I have silver Decorder and OTA download is not selectable. How Do I download?

Larukh said...

@ Vishwaje : Same here..

This is the first update after I purchased DTV, So please somebody tell me how to check whether it's updated or not. Where I can find the current software version or date.. I can't manually update as Vishwaje said.. I also have the Silver color decoder..

Radikal Zee said...

ah come on guys. the update will not magically do something to your decoders and make you see hundreds of new channels. just a few minor enhancements. so dont waste ur time trying to update manually or trying to find how it can be done. it will be done automatically as was informed so let it be like that.

Dialog logo appears on bottom right corner

can somebody upload or give me a link to download the program guide for JUNE...

I have a Silver decoder and "OTA download" was unelectable. somehow, now it seems software has been updated.
I think DYV logo is a part of new upgrades. The logo has not embedded to video. It will disappear once you press a button on the remote. (Ex; When you change the vol level)

As Radikal Zee said, there is no magical improvements. Also, I feel that DTV logo is kind of rough and doesn't blend with the rest of menu system :)

nickelodeon channel soo annoying again, now every things broadcasting in Hindi. Why stupid Dialog don't understand most of us don't understand Hindi. We are paying for them. they should start broadcasting the English version again.

May be that the logo is hidden in the right bottom corner (due to overshooting of vertical beam)

after the software upgrade, the quality and strenght levels have droped draastically!!weldone DTV

Larukh said...

@ hellbreez

That's true I also found drop in signal strength and quality about 5-10 percent. I have the silver coloured DTV decoder.

madhusha99 said...

After the Software upgrade Strength and Quality going down!!!!!!!!!!! Do sumthing for that!!!!!!!!!! DTV!!!!!

Tharindu Hasanka said...

there is no quality dropped down.bt there is no changing in my decorder.(CBN SAT)

bank_dude said...

Signal and quality level won't change unless you do something with the dish and the LNB. Software measures signal and quality level in it's own way.

Hi All

Do you remember that it's three years gone by now after Black Box Crisis of 06/06/06

Well this is a just reminder of the events that we faced and defeated colloboratively where no other things are possible.

Lisura, LST, Bank_dude and so Long Kalu are remineded with respect.

For the rest of guys, this is the day that we all seen the black box for the first time and gathered to this forum for discuss our frustration for the first time under the kind guidance with rhe admin.

Long live Subsciber unite, Reminding all esteem guys of both subscriber unite and CBN.

Btw, Dialog made a significant move forward from the point where CBN concluded.

Channel line up gone twice the initial. More Channels of customer favour is added. Full (or most) star package is added and few channels are dropped as well. However even though still is troubling with finance, the system runs more smoothly by now with rapid customer growth.

For that, a warm regards to the existing dialog team too.

Warm regards and reminds to all
on third annivesary of black box day.

I think DTV should add "WB" to its line-up soon. It is a part of CNN (Turner International)group. The channel airs some real Cable shows such as "Blade: The Series".

@SLP

Thanks for reminding all of us that black day in the history of DTH TV in Sri Lanka.

Truly Dialog has taken CBNSat to the next best level possible with the current economic hardships. We should thankful for them for that. We will continue to point out the areas which they can develop without additional cost to the subscriber.

As SLP mentioned from CBNSat times the channel line up gone twice the initial. And now we get a good mix of international channels.

What i feel now after so many years from that CBNSat era is that after watching these channels over the years our satisfaction level has gone up. Thats why sometimes we also ask for new channels.

:-)

I hope with the Sri Lankas troublesome period of LTTE terrorism is over Dialog can reach new markets and increase the subscriber base so that they will be able to introduce more new channels and new services !

As the sole DTH TV provider in Sri Lanka Dialog have a big responsibility to bring the latest international content at an affordable price to all Sri Lankans !

It looks like there are more testing going on with Swarnawahini and Rupawahini.

Dialog tv is adding more and more local channels instead of adding any new international English channels. They are more interested in numbers than content.Warner Bros movie channel is launched in India.Paramount Movie channel is launched in Asia.Sony English is lauanched in asia. The best excuse they give is licensing problems.Atleast why cant they add Warner brothers.Play channel is a useless channels.Whats in it?? Do we get proper information form that channel? Arent they wasting valuable bandwidth?? We pay for these and we have the right to ask what we want!!!
