Will all new channels come to only Rs 1949/=

With the introduction of Bloomberg Television only to the Rs 1949/= premium package many of the Rs 1400/= premium package subscribers have been left wondering whether all the new channels to be introduced to Dialog TV will only be made available on that package.

If this takes place then many of Dialog's subscribers will disconnect and move to either LBN, PEO TV or an even worse blow will be if they purchase an Indian DTH connection.

So far information coming in suggests that many have adopted a ready to change attitude but with a little bit of wait and see thrown in. Since Bloomberg TV is mainly focusing on business news and would be useful for the businessman who will be able to afford a channel such as this Dialog TV may have opted to make this channel only for the Rs 1949/= just to make a quick buck. However a wise businessman would rather invest in a satellite dish and watch this channel FTA instead of paying a higher rental to Dialog TV.

Maybe Dialog TV will introduce their other new channels to both premium packages and if they don't then they will be left with less premium package subscribers that they started out with and the break even dream will be delayed further by a few more years.

With competition increasing in the pay television field a high handed stupid move like this will spell the end of Dialog TV.

We hope Dialog TV management makes note of all these and we urge the Dialog TV subscribers to get in touch with Dialog TV via email or phone and urge them to undergo a change otherwise Dialog make soon become the next Comet Cable.

Please keep us updated on the latest developments as the days progress.

THIS AS USUSAL CAT AND MOUSE GAME OF DTV.

THEY TRIED THIS TACTIC WITH CITYHITS AND C CHANNELLS. BUT DUE TO CUSTOMERS RESISTANCE THEY HAD TO STOP CHARGING FOR THOSE CHANNELSS.

DTV MAY WANT TO SEE CUSTOMERS RESPONSE. HOW MANY CUSTOMERS WILL CHANGE THEIR PACKAGES TO HAVE ACCESS NEW CHANELLS ? THAT WILL BE THE CRITERIA.

IF LARGE NUMBER OF CUSTOMERS DO THAT, THEN ALL NEW CHANNELLS WILL ONLY BE FOR 1949/- AND OTHER CUSTOMERS WILL BE NEGLECTED.

IF THAT IS THE POLICY OF THE DTV, ENEN GOD WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SAVE DTV.

Wonder if someone can persuade AIRTEL to introduce satellite TV, then all will panic and drop prices!!!

Does anyone know when DTV will shift MPEG4??? DTV has passed the deadline for the shift.

Its possible that they are more concerned with the dropping share prices!! Who knows they may decide to sell Dialog TV... I will not be surprised.

I am an old premium package customer. When I upgraded to the premium package, I was told that it will continue to be the premium package and all new channels will be included.

As you rightly pointed out, DTV has let us to wonder about the future of our package.

I will definitely downgrade my package to the lowest possible package (ideally Rs. 100) and move to some other operator, if I am not considered as a premium package customer. If they will provide me with a refund (even partial) , I will disconnect.

I was really annoyed when they removed channels like Animax, Zee Music and specially Zone reality (it is available in some other platforms). Also no one in the DTV realizes that all 3 cartoon channels available are in Hindi most of the time (specially when the kids wants to watch some carttoon).

PS
Wonder how UPAHARA has effected Dialog GSM. They may learn the same lesson again for DTV.

does anyone have the copy of the letter dtv sent us last year that stated the premium package of
rs. 1400 will be increased so customers should purchase package before August 31st (or some other date) else they have to purchase the new premium package (rs.1949).

they never mentioned that these packages are in different catagoryies

i think you guys could make a case out of this

DTV is a crap. We are Sri Lankans and our kids can understand the English. But the crooks at DTV telecast all the three cartoon channels in Hindi.

What's wrong with these idiots. Why don't they drop these and go for the English version of the same.

My 3 and half old years son loves to watch Diego on Nick. Unfortunately its in Hindi.

DTV, if you want to telecast the Hindi channels, go ahead with the Hindi movie channels. But do not play with the cartoon channels.

Neither me nor my kid understand Hindi.

If we want to watch all the programs in Hindi, we have so many alternatives. You idiots at the DTV should understand this.

Do remove these Hindi cartoons and replace them with suitable English ones.

Else we have to select something else.

JPL 244 said...

Not only Diego

Dora the explorer, Blues Clues are also few of other favourites of my kids. now all of them are in hindi.

Also NAtGeo, discovery and History channels have few indian telemarketing crap. It is eating into several hours of watchable time.

we dont mind ads in hindi but not the programmes.

Does SLT IPTV has this hindi crap?

MW said...

if IPTV is a success i mean without any buffering issue DTV will lose their customers by 50% for sure.
Most of friends who have DTV have decided shifting to IPTV.
There is Something wrong with DTV management i think. Just think of the new decoder they r distributing , its a completely outdated one. Now a days decoders have recording facilities comes with a USB host.

In DishTV they can select the language of the following channels

# Cartoon Network
# Pogo
# Nickelodeon
# History Channel
# National Geographic
# Discovery Channel
# Disney Channel
# Toon Disney

Dialogtv should also give this option.

Looser said...

You are wrong 619.

Those channels have separate Hindi feeds. DTV is getting the English feed but now lots of programmes are in Hindi only.

I checked this with TataSky sometime ago.

Dialog GSM has reached 5 million customers and Look what they offer

1000 Minutes out going free to 5 million numbers (dialog to dialog / NO FUP attached )

And Per Cecond billing.

DtoD 2/= (peak)
D to Non D 3/= (peak)

Amaising offer.... Good bye Upahara!!!

JPL 244 said...

@ NOKIA

1000 min free is the FUP (it is similar to upahara, but in upahara this 1000 min is for M2M and all fixed lines).

After FUP, upahara charges at .50 (fifty cents).
Dialog even with life time disounts will take Rs. 2 for the first min and Rs 1 after third minuite for D2D.

but do not forget, this will affect dialog turnover drastically. Think about their overheads. For me it is more like farewell dialog.

Nokia said...

@ Prasanna,
Dont panic.....

Dialog gives 1000 mins around the clock and Mobitel only during 12mid night to 6 PM...

Dialog to Supplimentory is just 0.10 /= Per minute

All the chargers are applicable for life time discount :)

There is no farewell to dialog as they are having 5 Million subscribers and only SLT will loose their revenue from Upaharaya.

Dialog is having the widest network coverage and Militory people know about the coverage as they are the people work outstations and they Respect the county's largest Mobile telecomunication Company. :)

I think it is too early to jump from dtv to peo wagon. what about the cost we paid DTV rs 12500 and to peo rs10000 as most viewers i don't like to spend money on DTH unless i am getting my moneys worth. I had comet fr rs 22000 and then now dtv what next? peo not unless they give a good pkg that is better than dtv. I agree fr cartoon chls it is time to move from dtv to peo as for kids it is waste of time and money.

THE TACTICTS OF DTV USED IN THE PAST TO INCREASE THEIR CUSTOMERS AND INCOME, HAVE BACKFIRED. THEY ARE NOT INCREASING THE CUSTOMER BASE AS EXPECTED.

PEOLPLE WHO ARE DOING MARKETING AT DTV SEEMED TO BE STILL IN KINDERGARTEN. THESE BUGGARS USE SILLY AND STUPID STARTEGIES.

THERE IS ALWAY VERY GOOD POTENTIAL MARKET FOR CABLE TV IN SL. BUT DUE TO BAD MARKETING POLICY DTV ARE NOT IN A POSITION TO ATTRACT AVAREGE INCOME EARNERS. DTV SHOULD LOOK FOR INCREASED VOLUME INSTEAD OF HIGH MARGINS.

SLT IPTV HAS A LONG WAY TO GO. IT IS TOO EARLY TO CONSIDER IPTV RIGHT NOW AND AS "sattvmania" POINTED OUT WHAT ABOUT THE COST.

SLTIPTV PACKAGE CHARGES WITH HBO CHANNELLS ARE AROUND 1400/- AND THEY HAVE LESSER NO OF CHANNELLS COMPARED TO DTV. WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF NEW CHANNELLS THEY MIGHT ALSO INCREASE CHARGES.

SO BEST POLICY IS TO WAIT AND WAIT PATIENTLY AS WE ALL HAVE DONE DURING LAST TWO YEARS...

Hey guys,
How do we know that Peo Tv is not getting the Indian feed for Nick, Disney, MTV etc. ?
Right now, I'm in Singapore and the MTV feed here (Asian) is 1000 times better than the crap we get in SL. Even Star World is much better because there are no irritating indian adverts :-)

sanjan said...

dialog one s only good thing is it is available to every one. no point whether dialog has 5 million or not. will you call all those? all the important numbers are fixed lines. for your infomation dialog anyway has only 3 million max and mobitel is just behiend. they had given 4 million sims since they give kit freely with each phone but most are not active.
one important inside story for all of you. mobitel already revised their tariff to general public also but cant implement because of the upahara work load. all those are better than new dialog one and will come in next month.

The CH channels are currently scrambled. CH3 shows NDTV.

I have two TV's. Does anyone know how can i watch two channels on both TV's from the DTV?

Do I need to buy a extra decoder? How much will it cost?

If DTV continues to ignore the old premium package customers then they will really loose lot of customers. Even the other package customers should be careful- they will also get the awful treatment some day soon.

Can anyone from DTV could let us know about those channels

Now the competition has begun among mobile operators. In near future most of the calls will be FOC.
Mobitel started their campain stating Totally outgoing free and which included a FUP and time bands.

Now Dialog gives 1000 minutes free amoung their network.

And Mobitel is to revise their targetting group to all the customers.

But I saw in a news paper earlier that TIGO has mentioned that they are the 2nd largest mobile operator in sri lanka....

Anyway it's all good for poor customers like us who seeks their service. At least Mobile phone bill get lower than everything.

And hoping to see the same with Setallite TV as well

As soon as I saw this comment, I spoke to DTV to confirm this. It is true. They are discriminating between the "premium" and "very premium" packages it seems! For Bloomberg, we might take this, but they will continue to do this in the future for other channels as well.

Now my question is, why should we hold onto DTV, when we can get the same package at a lesser cost with Indian service providers? Well, IPTV is not yet upto the level. So that's the only option.

No sooner they will tell us that we no longer can receive this and that "new" features because we are the "cheap premium"

I THINK IT IS DEFINITELY THE TIME TO SHIFT!

if there's a company which provides most viewed satellite TV channels(selected list CN, Discovery etc..)in Asian feed, they will come top regardless of other service providers who gives many crappy channels. what matters is quality not the quantity. we cant watch all those channels at once ha?
better way is to let DTV know that we customers are aware of what kind of shit their giving to us, distribute an email among people acknowledging everyone.

Yesterday they installed the new decoder for me. I observed that basic power function is behaving in a strange way. Imagine the setup box is on standby mode and you disconnect the power. When you restored the power it should come to the standby mode again. That's how most electronic goods does and that's how old decoder operated as well. For the new decoder it is not happening that way. Once you restored the power, it switches on automatically and give you the last selected channel. (The channel you watched last). Can anyone confirm is it the way new decoder works. If that so, the new decoder will consume hell of a lot of power without being used.

Dora the explorer and so many other favorite shows on nick is available in English on DISH TV.

I really don't know why DTV does not get the english audio feed of these programs !

DISH TV is the best option I think if you are not a huge fan of channels like hallmark, neo sports etc. For a monthly rental of Rs. 750/= you get all the kids channels + a lot of english news channels + sports channels + a lot more english channels !

This includes FTA channles like DW-TV, KBS World and NHK !

see this :

http://www.dishtv.in/static/packDishmaxi.asp

All for LKR 750/=

For the DTV 1400 package we pay LKR 1610 per month. for that price we can get 2 DISH TV connections !

DISH TV is value for money !

If you are going to buy Dish TV from Sri Lanka always buy from a person who gives the registration details so that you can pay online. once you get the web access it's very easy to pay on the web and instantly you'll receive a message on the decoder indicating that your payment is received !

And there is a host of active services ! News, Sports, kids and much more !

Hello Guys,

Its a very infuriating situation when one day you hold a premium package, and then the next day you dont, due to the whims and fancies of the provider. This scenario is beyond comprehension, and should not be allowed to happen by the TRC and consumer protection agencies.A premium package once defined, constitutes a top of the range selection, and customers who hold this are premium customers who have paid the premium charges throughout, and should not be sidelined and forced in to other packages that have been priced due to variable escalating costs or such issues pertaining to new add on channels.
What becomes of the "premium" package holders of the Rs. 1400/-+vat package now?
are they being forced to upgrade to a newer premium package just to get the aditional channels at a higher cost?
This is bull shit.
One more stunt like this and I am out of DTV (together with another 20 connections) for good.
LBN is sure to give a good deal even on connection charges.
Lets see.

Stay cool.
Micheal.

I was old Rs. 900 package customer and upgraded to premium package as the customer care guy assured me that all new channels will be available to 1400 package. I have been paying 1400 for over a year expecting future chanels and to retain premium status. Suddenly, now have realized that it is not the case.

The way DTV (and dialog) treating the customers is not acceptable. I ill not upgrade my package for sure and I have lost faith is dialog.

Now I will wait and see for a better option (or a promotion) from SLT IPTV or Indian operator and will switch. I will either disconnect DTV or downgrade it (if only they allow Rs. 100).

I hope you guys remember how Dialog riped it customers in tha past. They charged Rs 2500 for a KIT connection and now they offer it at Rs 200-300. No benifit for the old customer who paid 2500 and the new customer who pays very low price get all the benifits (2 min free etc). Dialog was the last operator to meke the within netowrk incoming free and it was very recently that they gave incoming free on their 500 package. They took another year or more to come up with a 300 incoming free package. All theother oprators were far better in offering benifits to the customers.

If you have noted in the recent per second package, some call cahrges have gone up (compare nigt time charges in the old and new.)

I would have liked to stick on to a Sri Lankan provider, but if SL providers are trying to cheat us, as customers, we are left with no other option.

I have emailed DTV, giving reasons for change.

1. Did not show Olympics, the world's most important sporting event.

2. Breaks down during slightest drizzle.

3. Pathetic picture and sound quality.

4. Funny looking set top box, old stockspiles of junks with no features.

5. Finally me being demoted to "cheap" primium from the premium level.

Wonder who takes decisions in DTV.

So its Bye for DTV from me.

@ transporter

you are just like dialog gsm. misleading people by comparing 2 totally unrelated things. daily 8 rupee is upahara rental and you cant compare it with useless life time discount fee of 477. it should be compared with dialog rental which is 10 per day thus 3650 per year without tax. so it is about 800 more than upahara. for that rental dialog gives 1000 mins free to 077 numbers only. they dont give OG free even to dialog cdma. but with upahara people can call 071,0112,0114,0115,0117(dialog cdma) freely. no wonder what is better! you may tell 50 cent charge 6pm to midnight. but people can talk 120 mins during that period for 60 rupees which is the difference of 2 rentals. but dialog gives it to anyone and that is the onlyadvantage of that.
back to 477 charge , people can enjoy it after 1000 mins for the 3rd minute of the call! so you have to take more than 500 calls (after free 1000 mins) lasting more than 3 minutes to recover that! will dialog last till that, will we be with dialog till that? will mobitel extend the package to public before that? what will airtel offer? these things we have to consider before wasting another 500 rupees.

sanjan said...

@ everyone
please see my above comment and give your comments. we need not to be loyel to dialog, slt or mobitel. we should select whatever suits us better. i feel at the moment upahara is uncomparable. but dialog one is also good for a non state sector small community to communicate but not good enough as a broad communication package as calls to land lines are not free.i m not at all against dialog package but i m critizising the way they charge us for every offer almost monthly. last month we paid phone bill plus 477 for nothing and this month are we going to pay phone bill plus 500? next month surely they say to pay it with 12 , 50 rupee installments!!if mobitel offers something similer to upahara for us also then those477 and 500 will be a total waste, isn t it?

Observer said...

I am appalled by dirty tricks being played by Dialog crooks.

How many of you are extensively using your outgoing after 2nd and 3rd minutes. We are only talking about a 477 cash upfront for those minutes. This will be beneficial until Airtel launches operations here. When that happens dialog will have to halve the call rates anyway to keep the customers

It is idiotic to compare the 477 discount ( Which is a sum paid in additional to the normal post paid package monthly rental ) to Upahara which has a monthly rental of 250 only for the whole package.

DigitalTV said...

sanjaya

you are right but not all the thing you said.
We don't need wait until the 1000 mins end to take the advantage of lifetime discount. If we talk other than dialog line the discount apply for that.

Why dialog dont give outgoing free even for their Dialog CDMA lines ?

amazing...

Observer said...

In my opinion even Airtel would find it hard to beat Upahara call rates

Hi guys, after much deliberation, finally got LBN.

Paid the money on Tuesday & they installed it yesterday( WED ). 6900 + one month rental. Quite a big procedure actually, drawing cables & stuff.

Anyways here are my views comparing DTV with LBN

Decoder made by Technosat.

PIC Quality - LBN is much better, ( although i hate to admit it )actual DVD quality pics & sound is also better especially on the music channels.

No pixel issues in HBO channels, and fast moving pics like ESPN & sports channels.

NO EPG.

CLOCK TIME cannot be adjusted by LBN. So it shows some other time now. ( Can anyone who has LBN confirm this ? )

Hi Guys,

@ AMD,

Are you saying that the service proper in its entirety is a better bet than DTV?
And do you also reccommend DTV customers who are not satisfied, and most who are being downgraded by Dialog to being non-premium by force, to connect to LBN, if coverage permits them to do so?

Please give us a honest answer, thanks. Appreciate your frank views on this AMD.

stay cool.

I have converted my Dialog Packge to Blaster package and I see it's more econimical than my 500 package as I get charged PER SECOND basis. And 1000 mins outgoing free to Dialog Numbers + I get DISCOUNT for my local landline calls... Its amaizing offer.
Comparing the coverage and the Service (connecting to call centre @ dialog is eazy than connecting to mobitel) always Dialog is better.
My fater had a Dialog connaction and disconnected that and got a Mobitel Upaharaya and now he is back to Dialog and enjoying teh benifits given By dialog.

And you dont have to go to Dialog outlet to get this activated you can do it from the phone itself.... :)

If Mobitel to offer RAJYA SEWAYA PINISAI to genaral public. they may have to change the concept!

LBN Digital service quality is much better than DTV. I have seen and experienced it personally. If I'm in the coverage area of LBN i would definitely go for it.

But unfortunately LBN is not available in my area. So I have to rely on a satellite connection. DishTV is the ideal for me. I paid to CBNSat for a connection even before it went on air and stayed with them in the good times and in bad times. The bloggers here and the admin knows it.

But now I have to let go DTV and go for a new operator ! No point in wasting time in complaining to DTV. It's like playing a violin for a deaf elephant !

Today in the morning "Roary the racing car" on Nick was available in english on Dish TV and in hindi on DialogTV.

LOLs!

Lisura said...

Good choice Rukmal !

Soon you will see the difference in quality !

"Colors" Channel is also available on Dish TV from yesterday on channel no. 111

Kids Active is on Channel 90 with lots of educational games for children.

Enjoy Dish TV !

It's only 569 rupees more than the Dialog TV monthly rental of LKR 1610!

What a saving even after getting a better connection !

@ Micheal & Others

Hi, Yes would recommend LBN over DTV if its in their service area. Most of the old bloggers know that i did stand by DTV no mantter what happened.

My main reason to get LBN was the cost issue.

Where their C/C is concerned, i can tell u its kinda worse than DTV. I had to call them several times to get the details, & different agents told me different things, they take a long time to ans the phone ( there is no automated service ),
and sometimes no ans.

So if u dont mind the missing EPG & the wrong clock & the cable running all over, go for LBN.

Mario said...

By the way, although they have mentiond ETV & Channel V in their line up, its not available.

They have the COLOURS channel as well & UTV World movies.

I wonder what will happen to Dialog group in future! they r really 3rd class people! you know people?,They r giving Dialog broad band connections for free to SLT ADSL customers !. I also tried their Broadband (i dont have an SLT line) but its not working in my area (Kandana). According to the guys who came to fix it half of the connections they try to deliver fails for poor signals.

@ Yakuza

Yes ! we'll be here. I still have my DTV connection. Thats why i can compare and see the difference. I always wanted a second connection to watch news and sports but dtv does not give any discount for the second connection.

So thats the reason I went for a Dish TV connection. Now when I look back i realise that even keeping 2 Dish TV connections is cheaper that Dialog TV. DTV pricing is so unrealistic.

Take off the HBO pack, hallmark and neo. Still they cant match the prices in the south asian region.

Mario said...

@ Yakuza,

Will certainly do. Have 2 DTV connections at my parents place & at my landlords too, so will always be able to compare the difference.

Usefull Infomation said...

I also got a dish tv connection for Rs. 12750/= These Guys say that they will install islandwide and also maintain the equipment.
I have a DTV conection taken way back during the CBNSAT era - I now DTV even asks for payment for FREE TO AIR cannels like Bloomberg - seems really stupid - There rental is high compared to other connections.

Hey guys,

will the 1949/- "NEW Premium" package also have to face the same fate as the original " 1400 + VAT Premium" package some point in time down the line, as overheads go up for DTV due to content providers icreasing the per customer charge, and will they also have to put up or shut up like whats happening now, due to DTV bull shit state of the art marketing strategy - putting down loyal customers and changing their promises down the line, as and when they pleaes?
Is it even legal when one has signed up for a "premium package", to be downgraded ad "Non-premium", due to the introduction of another "newer Premium package" purely becos costs have gone up for the provider?
When costs go up further, whats to be introduced - "Delux Super Duper Sucker Premium Package", with Free Porn channel for the first 100 customers,?.....Then what?

Stay cool "Newly Non Premium Package Holders"

Lets take a long hard look at the legality of this downgrade together with advise from the TRC and consumer protection agencies.

@ nokia

dialog says future today!
but they take you to the past and you seems to be pulling your father along with you. why i say this,
because dialog offers only voice calls free, but upahara video calls also free. imagine , in years time mobitel uses will take only video calls and you guys will just take boring voice calls. and communication freedom is more with upahara. dont be that much loyal to the network and try to make an elephant out of a mouse! let your father to get upahara benifits or else give that sim to a blogger here! and i hope mobitel will introduse good package to whole public with per second billing soon. guys, any news about that? if you have please publish here. i'm waiting for that and airtel to choose, had enough with dialog.
meantime i got iptv connection. its good and 29 channels per 1000 base package. HBO pack 400 more but i dont want that as i m not a big film lover. sports channels will be available next week, about 40-50 per channel per month along with star movies.and picture quality and sounds are really good. but as i havent used dialog tv cant compare accurately, but what i experienced with singer mega dialog tv pictures it is very much better.

sanjan said...

i said peo tv picture and sound quality is much better than DTV

hi fellow bloggers,
I'm a new blogger here although I have been reading this blog for many months.

I got my connection from CBNSat in March 2006. It's so annoying how DTV treat their customers. I was on the phone to DTV CC guys over half an our to complain about CN & Nick's Hindi feed. Then I asked about downgrading my package to the cheapest option and was shocked to hear that they are charging whopping Rs.2500 and cheapest available package is now Rs.250.. This is a rip off... It's so depressing that some of us have to put up with DTV. I'm going to switch to PEO as soon as they add Star World and AXN to their channel lineup..

With a recent scanning on the TV through terestial analog transmission, there is a test transmission.

This channel branded as TV-2 and is just over the TVLanka on the UHF TV Brand.
.
Can anyone confirm who owens this and the possible brand name of it.
.
Does this the so called Siyatha TV?

Looser said...

@dinesh

What did you mean by "they are charging whopping Rs.2500"?

::DINESH:: said...

@LOOSER

DTV CC guy told me that I have to pay Rs.2500 if I want to downdrade to Rs.250 package. They are charging too much for doing nothing. Don't you think that too much..?

::DINESH:: said...

There a private cable company (not LBN) operating from Negombo covering most on the areas in Negombo, Colombo road upto Seeduwa and housing schemes in Ja-ela and Raddoluwa. They are covering our area too.. They are providing analog cable connection (no set-top boxes) with only single package inclusive of 50 odd chanels. They say they do their operations under 'Ruhunu Multivision 2000' license.. Their installation is Rs.3000 and monthly rental is Rs.620 and secondary connections cost only Rs.1500 and monthly rental is Rs.150.. I even got a leaflet from one of their promotion guys. It sounds too good to be true... Do you guys smell a rat about this company?

Yes Dinesh it is too much

Hi,

Sorry for asking this question in this forum. But PEO TV forum seem to be having less members and I know that this forum has many "techees" who might able to help me!

I am presently living out of Sri Lanka and wondering whether we can watch PEO TV [provided I get a set top box from Sri Lanka and have ADSL-but not from SLT :) ]. Can someone advise me on this.

poor_creature_hurt said...

@ Roger
I don't think you can access PEO TV out of SLT network as IPTV is usually network specific.
