One week on.....

It has just been over a week since we made our last post. And no this blog is not dead, we are just taking it slow these days since nothing much is happening that is worthwhile posting about. So hereafter you might see less posts (usually once a week) appearing but as soon as something happens we will be making a post about it. However we believe that most of our bloggers are here and are not commenting since there is nothing much to comment about.

Anyway taking the past week into consideration nothing special has happened. And no, Animax has not been reintroduced yet however we hope that Dialog would at least consider introducing a channel such as "Disney" in place of that no good "SET SAB". We hope that Dialog reintroduces "Animax" along with the fourth transponder at least if not immediately.

Talking about transponders it seems that there has been an interruption in service during the morning hours today with TP2 down for some time. Apparently channel numbers have changed abruptly and some channels showing numbers such as "72". We are unable to ascertain the cause of this problem but we hope that some of you out there will post a comment with more information and whether the problem has been solved.

This week Dialog TV have been carrying out some advertising regarding the "AXN" channel. There are also other channels/programmes that Dialog TV can concentrate on such as "Survivor : China" the latest edition of Survivor being telecast over Zee Cafe. "American Inventor" on Star World and "Amazing Race Asian Edition : Season 2" which is commencing next month on AXN and a host of other programmes.

Please keep us updated on the latest regarding Dialog TV as the days progress.

The comment made by fellow bloggers have drastically gone down during the month of October. For last 05 posts comments have been 47 - 16 - 13 - 21 -11. Generally it has shown a declinig trend.

So what are the reasons. Has DIALOG suddenly solved all the issues and every body is satisfied with DTV and there is nothing more to comment.

Or peolpe are fed up DTV and decided not to comment any more. Whatever it is, fellow bloggers are keeping away.

That is no good. Coming here and discussing various issues with people have been a great learning experience even though sometimes it has been dissapointing.

In the Southern region , Derana TV is using DTV to broadcast the channel. When CBN time, Derana wasn't available due to blackout. There isn't delay between Derana , on DTV and normal antenna receiver.( Most of the bloggers know that)

The new information is, Max Radio in Southern region also use DTV to broadcast the channel. The radio frequency is about 3 seconds delay than DTV. That means DTV is ahead. Then, we can prove Max (90.6), is using DTV to broadcast in other parts of the country.

@ Kumara,

Yes, I agree with you. Also I'm a one of them , use to refrain from posting (Many)comments, due to unwanted atmosphere.

@ Priyantha,

Yes this hepls them save the cost of setting up their own relay trasmitters.

Lets hope that they can get ART, ETV, EFM & REAL RADIO also when TP4 arrives.

Kumara,

Agreed. Lot of people kept away due to harsh treatment they received at various times.

That is past and history. People may have learnt their lessons. Lets hope we can go ahead peacefully respecting each other's view while giving constructive opinions.

Mr.Kumara,

You should expect all situations you mentioned from a "blog".If anyone cant take harsh truth and the real situation,Well,i think they should never be commenting on this blog.

I don't think that ARTv and ETV will turn up on Dialog TV. Those channels show mostly the same programs as the pay television channels (STAR World, Hallmark, AXN).

And Real Radio is owned by people who plan to launch a competing pay television service (or were planning).

But they may get E FM and Max Television.

Today (20th) since morning Star movies gave problems & time to time those color bars (test card) appeared on the screen.

Don'y know what's wrong with DTV. With Tata Sky I have never experienced these kind of problems.

Why does DTV lose signal every time there is the slightest shower? This happened about 4 times yesterday & has been happening everytime it rains for many months now. Is there anything that can be done so that the signal is not lost during every little rain?

Unknown said...

Yo Sharm!!

When DTV loses signals during a little rain at your place, it must be raining hard in Kotahena area. DTV uplinking station is in kotahena.

Yesterday without any rain in my area DTV signal went down for a minute or two. However it was raining very hard in colombo.

Has anyone noticed that during a rain interruption its always TP3 channels that go out 1st ? and if if check the signal levels & quality on a normal sunny day,
TP3 is always a bit less than 1 & 2. This morning there was heavy rain my my area, TP3 went off 1st and then the rest of the channels, 1 & 2 came back on after about 2 mins but 3 took about 3-5 mins.

Isn't there anything DTV can DO to stop rain mucking up transmission? It's really annoying that the DTV signal packs up so often during the rainy season (which seems to be all year around these days). Surely there must be some technical thing that can be done to PREVENT transmission interruptions with rain?

sonik said...

Ah... writing here after a long tym... of course ive been following the blog.

As for the rain interruptions on dtv even when its not raining that much,... its everything to do with the angle. . See, the dtv dish is placed in such an angle that, it doesnt have to be raining where the unit is for interruption to occur. The dtv dish makes a lesser angle with the ground. If theres enough rain elsewhere blocking the path between the dish and satellite, then it will cause interruption. Tata sky and dishtv satellites are in such a position that the dishes make a bigger angle with the ground. Hence, there will be disturbance only if there is very heavy rain directly over the receiving area. its the opposite for dtv. poor choice of satellites, but since theyve paid for it they might as well use it.

Tp3 is the weakest out of the 3 transponders, hence it will go out first.

Anywayz, while it isnt raining, the picture quality on most of the channels i watch.. star etc.... are ok.. but not a patch on some other broadcasters. they should reduce the no. of channels per tp and increase bandwith per channel... what i always said.....

sonik said...

btw.. what happened to the dtv insiders who used to comment here..?

Mario said...

hello sonik - after a long time!

So is this problem with IS 12, or with the sats that DTV receives the channels from ?

leyland said...

Actually, for the last few days I have noticed that the signal quality of TP2 has dropped drastically. Earlier signal quality of TP2 was around 63-64, but now it is down to 43-44 and last night it was going below 30 causing picture freezing while TP1 and TP3 remained above 62. Signal level for me these days for the 3 TPs are as follows

TP1: Level=85 Quality=65
TP2: Level=85 Quality=43
TP3: Level=84 Quality=62

Mario said...

Kaushal where are u located ?

My levels

TP1: Level 73, Q - 62
TP2: Level 76, Q - 63
TP3: Level 72, Q - 56

hush said...

I agree with kausal, definitely without any rain TP2 quality has come down a lot and more or less of kaushal said but yesterday it came down to low 30`s. something is definitely up as other transponder levels were more or less on lower sixties.
