Supreme Court issues order restraining CAA

The Supreme Court issued an order on Aug 20th 2007 restraining the Consumer Affairs Authority from interfering in Dialog TV proceedings and also preventing them from suing the company.

In addition the Supreme Court will take up the FR petition filed by Dialog TV against the CAA. The Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva is said to have explained that allowing the CAA to proceed would have meant an injustice to over 30,000 subscribers of Dialog TV.

It looks like the CAA will have to be called the HAA (Henchmen Affairs Authority). So the CAA failed to uphold the rights of the consumers when this DTH company was sealed last year and now all of us know that they did not come forward since they were also influenced by the henchmen. Now since the tactic of using the CAA is failing, we wonder whether the CMC is the next state institution that will file action against Dialog TV on behalf of these henchmen.

Dialog TV in remarkable viewer growth

Shirajiv Sirimane

General Manager Sales and Marketing (DTV), Nushad Perera

The recently introduced Dialog TV (DTV) has achieved a remarkable 300 percent growth GM Sales and Marketing of Dialog TV, Nushad Perera said.

“We have over half a million eye balls watching DTV so far,” he said.

That they would be investing more for DTV to make it more attractive.

DTV commenced operations last January after they took over CBN Sat. “We had less then 9,000 subscribers and today we have over 30,000 and growing fast,” he said.

He said that television is considered by some as a ‘waste of time past time’ but today it is fast moving to be a medium of education, learning and fun. The DTV infotainment channels include Discovery, History channels and animal planet.

“The so called idiot box is today considered an intelligent box and its fast turning out to be a house teacher,” he said.

He said that they have not only catered to entertainment, sports music and news but provides a Buddhist channel on zero rental.

In addition God TV can be added on request while most of the local TV channels are aired free.

He said that one of the other key features of DTV is that it can be installed anywhere in Sri Lanka, even in areas where there are no TV signals or Dialog mobile coverage. “If you can see the sky DTV can be installed there,” he said.

A basic car battery powered black and white TV is the minimum facility needed to get connected to a DTV.

“We have linked up with the satellite. The main transmitting station in Colombo guarantees customers an uninterrupted 24 hour deal,” he said.

“Today the total Dialog TV package includes 54 channels and if a one looks at it, the daily rental is as low as Rs. 3.50 per day for a basic package,” he said.

He said that a series of easy payment a schemes are introduced to cushion out the initial installation charges.

The DTV is in a position to beam even 200 channels at the same time. “However as a responsible organisation we do not want to give ‘junk’ to our viewers and have scanned only the best and ‘morally clean’ channels,” he said.

The DTV is also closely edited so that and no obscene material are aired.

There is also a lock function and has a unique feature only available in Sri Lanka where future programmes are indicated at the bottom of the screen.

This is the great news about connections. All the time all fake people saying CBNSAT had 25K, 30K but now see...
The great GM clearly told less than, less than 9000. And now only 30K.i dont know whether he is trying to say he increased the connection to 30K or else he used the CBNSAT connections for his purpose.
Finally what a grate grand speculation about "EYE BALLS".

kumara said...

WHO IS GOING TO HOOD WINK WHO. I DONT KNOW. THIS NUSHAD PERERA ALWAYS LYING ABOUT CBNSAT POSITION.

WHEN I JOINED CBNSAT IN JUNE 2006 MY NO WAS ABOVE 20000.THIS MEANS CBNSAT HAD MORE THAN 20000 CUSTOMERS WHEN ITS TRANSMISSION WAS ILLEGALLY STOPPED.

NOW THIS NUSHAD PERERA COMES AND TELLS US IT WAS AROUND 9000. SO ALL 11,00 CUSTOMERS HAD LEFT CHBSAT BY THE TIME DTV TOOK OVER. THIS IS REALLY DIFFICULT TO BELEIVE. I KNEW LOT OF MY FRIENDS WHO HAD CBNSAT CONNECTION NEVER THOUGHT OF MOVING TO ANOTHER CABLE TV. EVEN IF THEY WEANTED THERE WAS NO WAY BECAUSE THERE WAS ONLY COMET CABLE OPERATING DURING THAT TIME.

SO DEAR MR NUSHAD PERERA PL STOP LYING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS. WE KNOW THE CORRECT POSITION BETTER THAN YOU.

RATHER THAN GIVING STUPID COMMENTS LIKE THIS, TRY TO IMPROVE YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE, CHANNELL PIXALATION AND FREESING.

kumara said...

MACHANG ARNOLD,

THIS EYE BALL FIGURE IS CORRECT. YOU KNOW WHY. A CUSTOMER REQUIRE ADDITIONAL 06 EYE BALLS TO CAPTURE A SHARPER IMAGE WHILE GOING TGROUGH HEAVY PIXELATION IN MOST OF THE CHANNELLS.

30,000 subscribers = 120,000 viewers
(Average household has 4 members according to Census dept)
However if DTV has half a million eyeballs watching the channel then it means each DTV Viewer has about FOUR eyeballs
Maybe Kumara has a valid point
Or, has Nushad Perera got his balls mixed up ?

CN said...

hehehe, probably the latter... and not eyeballs, mind you :-)

kumara said...

YAKUZA,

YES, GOVT. IS GOING TO CHARGE A TAX ON MOBILE PHONES. BUT NOT ON CABLE TV USERS. HERE IS THE EXTRACTS

"
Government yesterday presented new Bills to Parliament aimed at raising cellular phone subscriber levy with excise duty up from 10% to 15% on imports, and increased charges on motor vehicle imports as well as on special commodities.

Under the amendment of Finance Act No 11 the cellular phone subscriber levy rate will be increased from 2.5% to 7.5% while every person who is liable to pay the levy would be subjected to Rs 50fixed charge per month.

SO DONT WORRY FOR THE MOMENT. BUT GOVT IS SO DESPERATE TO FIND FUNDS FOR DAILY EXPENSES, DONT BE SURPRISED IF A NEW TAX IS IMPOSED ON CABLE TV USERS.

MATES,

DIALOG IS GOING TO HAVE SERIOUS COMPETITION FROM AN INDIAN COMPANY " Bharti Airtel " IN THE FIELD OF MOBILE COMMUNICATION.
SOME OF THE EXTRACTS FROM THE NEWS ARTICLE IS GIVEN BELOW FOR INFORMATION

Sri Lanka's top celco Dialog Telekom said it was not worried by the entry of Indian mobile giant Bharti Airtel which is set to start commercial operations early next year.

"We have operated in a very competitive market place alongside three competitors and they are all consumer-centric and high quality players," says Hans Wijayasuriya, chief executive of Dialog Telekom.

"I do not see anything new in terms of competition.

Bharti Airtel plans to invest 200 million dollars in Sri Lanka and hopes to win customers with value added services like financial transactions and music and third generation (3G) mobile services.

The celco will roll out its network covering 65-70 percent of the island and offer connections from early next year

The company is a unit of Bharti Enterprises, a big Indian telecom service provider with 44 million customers, and is among the top three listed firms in India.

Bharti is a late entrant to Sri Lanka which already has four other players which are well entrenched and have been competing with each other for years.

With Sri Lankan call rates already being relatively low by global standards and heading down, it will be challenging for Bharti’s Sri Lankan operations to make a material contribution to its overall profits in the short term.”

Bharti already has a presence in the Indian Ocean island of Seychelles as well as in Jersey and Guernsey in the Channel Islands with their shareholder Vodafone.

Dialog launched the first 3G services in South Asia and has group companies in fixed access, broad band, television and pay TV. In already offers international video calling.

IT IS GOOD AT LEAST THAT THERE IS SOMEBODY WHO CAN GIVE THIS ARROGANT DIALOG BUGGARS SERIOUS COMPETITION AND BRAING THEM BACK TO EARTH.

@ Kumara,

Sorry, this is not relevant to dialog tv.

Any idea how the govt has increased duties on motor car imports ?

kavanr said...

When I called CC and asked about the various sets they told me about a few like the HBO grooup for Rs400 etc. Could someone from DialogTV who contributes to this list please post a complete list of sets with associated TV-channels + prices. So we can decide on the best option based on our preferences.
