More fine tuning taking place

Over the past few days there have been some fine tuning adjustments that have taken place on Dialog TV. The sound quality has improved on certain channels, the incorrect EPG on Hallmark has now been rectified. However it is sad that the EPG on Zone Reality is still faulty since it is the Indian Feed EPG that is on the screen whereas Dialog TV is broadcasting the DSTV (African DTH) feed of Zone Reality.

Many subscribers have received their September programme guides but it seems that the guide for Star Movies is wrong since it looks like it is the guide for the Indian feed that has been printed whereas the Star Movies on Dialog TV is the East Asian feed. It should be said that the number of channels listed on the guide should be increased since we have got information that Dialog TV charges quite a sum of money from those who advertise on the programme guide. So Dialog TV are probably not making a loss on printing the guide rather they must be making a profit so we request Dialog TV to increase the number of channels listed on the guide.

We believe more fine tuning is needed on the Dialog TV system. Dialog should also reconsider their planned package rate increase from October 1st since Comet Digital is expected to launch in September and is providing 60 channels at their existing rates (which is cheaper than Dialog TV's new rates that will be introduced in October). Therefore Dialog may loose out to Comet Digital due to the new rates being out of reach of middle class Sri Lankans. Cable TV is not a mode of entertainment for the upper class only but it should priced at rates affordable by the middle class, but the new rates are clearly aimed at the upper class. Comet Digital would certainly give better competition to Dialog TV since they are also a wireless system and have better coverage than LBN. It is time for Dialog TV management to reconsider their business strategy before being badly affected by the new package rates and loosing subscribers to Comet Digital. Dialog GSM survived amidst cut throat competition to become the market leader in the cellular industry in Sri Lanka. It is not an impossible task for a management team which achieved the industry leadership in the cellular industry, to do the same in the pay television industry and many expect Dialog TV to rise to the occasion and face this competition head on with competitively priced packages and rates.

Please keep us updated on the latest regarding Dialog TV as the days progress.

ADMIN,

THANKS FOR THE NEW POST.

DO YOU REALISTICALLY THINK THAT DTV WILL RECONSIDER THIER PACKAGE STRUCTURE. THEY ARE NOT LIVING IN SRI LANKA. ACTUALLY DTV IS LIVING IN ON THEIR OWN WORLD. MAY BE IN AMERICA, OR ENGLAND.

DTV IS AN ARROGANT, STUBBORN AND STUPID COMPANY. THEY WILL NEVER CHANGE PACKAGE STRUCTURE. THEY HAVE OFFERED FEW CRUMBS TO LESSER INCOME GROUP AND KEEPING EVERYTHING FOR HIGHER INCOME PEOPLE. THIS WILL VIRTUALLY DRIVE AWAY AVERAGE INCOME EARNERS FROM DTV TO OTHER CABLE TV OPERATORS.

DTV IS SOON GOING TO LEARN THEIR LESSON IN A VERY PAINFUL AND HARD WAY.

KUMARA,

IT IS SAID THAT ONLY THE HEAD END OF COMET WILL BE CHANGED TO GO DIGITAL AND IT IS MORE OR LESS THE SAME IFRASTRUCTURE THAT THEY WILL USE (ALONG WITH CHANGE OF DECORDER).

WILL THEY INCRESE COVERAGE WITH THIS? AND IF THEY DO AND IF THEY CONTINUE WITH THE SAME RATE STRUCTURE,DTV IS GOING TO LEARN A BITTER LESSON FROM COMPETITOR WHICH THEY THOUGHT IS DEAD AND SERVES THEM RIGHT.

alf said...

WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE NEW RATES OF DTV,WE WONDER WHETHER THESE HAVE BEEN CALCULATED BY DIALOG TV MF OR LORD ANTHONY.

soorapappa...සූරපප්පා said...

I'm pretty damn sure, this will become like tire store price list (actual price is way lower than marked on the list), or like Arpico sales (everyday they have sales like clearance, seasonal, bla bla bla...)
Already showing signs towards that by extending the upgrade deadline until 30th sept.
Don't sure how suitable these kind of third grade sales tactics for a reputed company like Dialog rather than expanding to a stable, large customer base by providing quality service for reasonable rates. Time will tell...

Sorry for not commenting like we used to. I guess there are very limited reasons to 'nag' DTV now that most of the big issues (at this juncture with 3 TP's and 54 channels) are sorted.

H/e, we are still watching (with mild amusement) as to how DTV is proceeding with its pricing/placement policy.

So any plans for RWC? I guess the big screens will come up once the initial stages are in full swing. I must thank Rupavahini/Eye for being so considerate (maybe with Caltex help) to show the vast majority of the matches. Neo+ in comparison pales in its performance but we'll take whatever comes our way (they will only be showing 2 matches not covered by Eye and only 15 in all at that).

I hope that DTV will not do anything as stupid as blocking channel Eye during world cup matches as Eye also has rights (except those two matches above) to telecast the same in SL. But even if they do - I hv my antenna ready, so it's a matter of plugging it in place of the STB.

THOUGH THEIR IS NO HUGE DIFFERANCE ON THE PICTURE QUALITY OF DISH AND DTV ON A NORMEL TV, I COMPARED THEM IN A LCD (32 SONY BRAVIA) AND THE PICTURE QUALITY OF DISH IS FAR SUPERIOR AND DTV EVEN DOESNT COME CLOSE TO THAT QUALITY.

3. TIME TAKEN TO RESPONSE AND SOLVE CUSTOMER PROBLEMS
4. PACKAGE STRUCTURE
5. EPG
6. PPROGRAM GUIDE
7. REMOVING OF UNWANTED CHANNELLS,

WE DO NOT ASK SUN, MOON AND STARS. WE ONLY ASK WHAT THEY CAN DO EASILY AND QUICKLY , IF DTV IS GENUINELY INTERESTED IN CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

WHAT WE SEE IS ONLY BIG TALK FROM NUSHAD PERERA ABOUT DTV CUSTOMER BASE AND INNOVATIVE MARKETING. NOTHING ELSE AND NOTHING MORE.

MY TV HAS A NORMAL ANTENNA FOR MTV AND PICTURE IS CRYSTAL CLEAR. TO TELL YOU ACTUALLY NOW I HAVE STOPPED WATCHING HBO GROUP AND START WATCHING LOCAL MTV FILMS WHICH ARE SOME TIMES WITH SUBTITLES AND YOU CAN ENJOY THOSE FILMS BETTER THAN HBO, BECAUSE THE QUALITY OF THE PICTURE.

JESIKA ALIAS RUKMAL ALIAS FREEMAN ALSO SHOULD BE FINE TUNED (HE IS ALWAYS TUNED FOR OTHER REASONS).

The All Blacks were treated to a rousing schoolboy haka when they arrived at an Auckland shopping mall for a final public appearance before their departure for the rugby World Cup.

A big crowd of several thousand had begun queuing up more than 90 minutes before an autograph signing session at the Westfield mall in Manukau City.

They produced a cacophony of sound when the All Black tour party of 30 players and team management arrived at the ground level of the complex.

All eyes then went up to the mezzanine balcony, as a group of Rotorua Boya High School pupils broke out into their school haka, Raukura.

After loud applause from the crowd, they followed up with the All Blacks' own haka, Ka Mate.

All Black coach Graham Henry described the reception the team received as "absolutely superb".

The players were then split up and went to four different tables as eager fans filed past.

The All Blacks are due to fly out of Auckland tonight bound for France. Their opening pool match is against Italy in Marseille on September 8.

It is an accepted fact that Dialog TV has more fine tuning to do. But the best news is that things are becoming better. The sound levels have been sorted out and we get sound on both channels now. Some channels broadcasting on mono have been brought to stereo. So lets give them some time and I am sure all these minor issues will be sorted out.

However your argument that local MTV channel quality is better than Dialog's HBO, Hallmark and History is pure crap. If you want to watch movies with Sinhala subtitles then pay television is the wrong choice of entertainment and you might as well stick to MTV then. The quality of the Dialog channels is far ahead of local channels.

Let's criticise the organisation constructively in a manner that will enable them to take note and sort out the problems instead of criticising them just for the sake criticising.

cable said...

I hope they increase the quality of the channels. ESPN and star sports have very low quality.

I happened to see DTV on a 42 inch screen and its completely rubbish. So be warned if you have a big tv DTV is not for you at the moment

kumara said...

DUDE.

YOU DONT HAVE TO GET UNDULY OFFENDED WHEN SOMEBODY CRITICISE DTV JUSTLY OR JUSTLY. BCOZ I AM COMMENTING THROUGH MY EXPERIENCE WITH DTV. THAT MAY BE TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM YOURS. YOU MAY BE GETTING A PERFETC SERVICE FROM THEM. THAT DOES NOT MEAN DTV SERVICE EVERY BODY LIKE THAT.

FOR ME THERE ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH REASONS TO KEEP ON CRISIZING THEM..THEIR PICTURE QUALITY IS BAD, LOT OF FREEZING, UNWANTED HINDI CRAP CHANNELLS, UNREALISTIC PACKAGE STRCTURE, DISCRIMINATIVE AND STEP MOTHERLY TREATEMENT GIVEN TO CBNSAT CUSTOMERS, INADEQUATE HANDLING OF CUSTOMER COMPLAINS,LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OF CUSTOMER CARE PEOPLE, INSENSITIVE TO CUSTOMER REQUESTS, THEIR STRONG ARM TACTICS DURING PAST FEW MAONTHS ETC ETC AND ETC..

THESE THINGS HAVE BEEN POINTED OUT TIME AND AGAIN DURING PAST FOUR MONTHS FELLOW BLOGGERS AND SUDDENLY THIS HAS BECOME UNJUST CRITICISM.

CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM MEANS YOU CRTISIZE SOMEBODY TO WITH GOOD INTENTION AND HOPING THAT THERE WILL BE SOME IMPROVEMENT WITH IN A REASONABLE COURSE OF TIME.

DID YOU SEE ANY MALICIOUS INTENT OF MY CRITICISM OF DTV AS A DTV CUSTOMER. I AM PAYING THEM 1600/ EVERY MONTH AND I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO RECEIVE A QUALITY SERVICE AND IF THEY DONT DO IT I HAVE ALL THE RIGHT IN THE WORLD TO COMMENT ABOUT IT WHATEVER MEDIA AVAILABLE TO ME.

THEY DONT GIVE ME DISCOUNT FOR GIVING A BAD SERVICE OR ANY REASONALBLE TIME TO SETTLE BILLS. ACTUALLY THEY ARE EXPECTING US TO PAY IN ADVANCE. SO THEN WHY SHOULD I GIVE THEM A REASONABLE TIME. I DONT SEE ANY REASONS. ACCTUALLY WE HAVE NOW GIVEN THEM MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME FROM ARPIL.

SECONDLY YOUR COMMENT ABOUT THAT MTV IS CRAP. I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH THAT. MTV ACTUALLY HAS GOOD PROGRAMS BUT THEY ARE FEW. THEY DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD. THAT IS ACCEPTED. THAT DOES NOT MEAN EVERY THING THEY DO IS BAD.

AND MY DEAR IT NOT YOUR BUSINESS TO TELL ME WHT TO DO OR NOT . WHAT I DO IS MY BUSINES. WHETHER I WATCH DTV OR MTV TNL OR EYE OR ANYTHING NOBODY SHOULD COMMENT ABOUT. YOU DONT HAVE TO TELL ME WHAT IS GOOD OR BAD. I KNOW VERY WELL DTV CHANNELL LINE UP IS FAR AHEAD WHEN COMAPERD LOCAL CHANNELLS. WHAT I SAID THAT MTV PICTURE QUALITY IS FAR BETTER THAN MOST OF THE DTV CHANNELLS AND IT IS PLEASING TO WATCH.

HOWEVER THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS9 for breaking monotony in the blog )EXCEPT FOR THE ADIVICE YOU HAVE GIVEN TO ME REGARDING MY VIEWING OF MTV.

Agreed with Kumara about picture quality of some local channels.

ART TV pic. quality is better than some DTV movie channels. It's high time DTV improves pic. quality.

DTV gives us only a few days grace period to pay bills while not delivering the goods upto expectations. (Though we can afford to pay bills even in advance)

We pay premium quality money on time, and want premium quality service in return.

Hey..... Why aren't they showing the IAAF World Athletic Championships held in Osaka? It's really pathetic since we have 7 sports channels on our lineup, still none can give a live coverage.

Since the World Championships is the pinnacle in the Athletic calender i suppose we should be given the privilege of watching the event live.

Plus Susanthika got through to the 200 m finals a while back. It'll be a great crime if us as Sri Lankans not given the opportunity to see her perform.

I'm pretty much sure this shit is only happening in our region only. They'll be showing live coverage of the event anywhere else in the world.

It seems the sports channels in our area are catering only the most popular sports like Cricket & football. Even i see Rugby fans are disappointed of the coverage by Neo Sports.

Soo i guess it's the right time to introduce more variety to these Sports channels.

Will LBN show the Star Singapore feed like they did last time?

If DTV had space and marketing plans - they could hv struck a deal with Star and with the subscribers .. I heard this happens in some other countries - they swap/select feeds during major tournaments.

I am damn frustrated with sports content on all the channels I get with DTV. I don't watch cricket/rugby LEAGUE/aussie rules/baseball/minor-league football/hockey.
I do watch rugby UNION/athletics/motorsports/major-league footie.

As long as I live in the damn Indian shadow I wouldn't be able to enjoy my sports on TV. :(

@vishkid

last world cup in 2003 espnstar had got the south asian rights too. The coverage as you would expect from espnstar was excellent. All the matches were shown.

Now I think there is tendency to market DTH rights to south asia seperatly from south east asian rights. An example is the foot ball champions league before 2006 the rights were held by espnstar and they showed 2 matches live simultaniously in ESPN and STAR. Now that Tensports has got the rights from last year they only show 1 match live while a second match is shown taped after the first match is finished.

south asia is not a good place to be in if you are a sports fan who has intrests beyond cricket

Here comes the full list. According to cust care, there is no limit whatsoever to choose these. i.e. anyone can select any set (but practically 100 can use 1-13, 500 can use 5-13 and 900 can use 11-13). But I still doubt (still DTV has same management. LOL)

Menu list:
1. z-studio, z-cafe, Australia network, vijay --> Rs.50
2. z-cafe, z-studio, Nick, MTV --> Rs.50
3. CNN, Cartoon network, AXN, zone reality --> Rs.150
4. History, Animal Planet, Discovery, Nat geo --> Rs.200
5. z-trendz, VH1 --> Rs.100
6. Star world, set sab --> Rs.100
7. SRTV, set max, star plus --> Rs.150
8. Discovery travel & living, Natgeo adv, star sports --> Rs.150
9. Animax, set, BBC --> Rs.150
10. Neo, hallmark, cinemax --> Rs.200
11. pogo, star movies, ten sports --> Rs.200
12. Neo+, ESPN, star cricket --> Rs.200
13. HBO, family, signature, hits --> Rs.400

From tomorrow you can call CC and order your menus. Finally... (I'm awaited this from long time).

Unknown said...

Benefit on the above selection is depend on the taste of individuals.
e.g. if somebody has taken 1,400/- specially to get ESPN & STAR (since there was no option earlier)now can pay around 500/- and watch most of the sports channels.

So I guess that 100/- package holders would have a better flexibilty.

Will this be the same for new coonections?

russel said...

wow. then i will be downgrading to the 100 package and get all the sets with sports. cool man...
( I have the 1400 package now.)
i never watch movies or any other infortainment channels.

Unknown said...

But, it could have been better if they also provide more options with sets divided into units like "movies, sports, cartoons" etc.

This could have helped people like russel, because if someone wants to have sports channels then you only have to pay for that set.( I also have a requirement for all sports channels for a second connection.)

Hope Dialog TV will consider such additional categories in the future
