Allow "Gold" pack subscribers to activate individual channels in HD pack

With Dialog TV continuing with the replacement of "Gold" pack subscriber decoders to the HD enabled decoder, Dialog should now enable those on the "Gold" pack to activate the channels available on the HD pack individually or at least the channels available as "Bonus" channels individually or allow them to add them on as a sub pack.

Those who are on the "Gold" pack and have no HD television have also got the new HD enabled decoder. Until they upgrade the television to a HD enabled one, they are obviously not going to activate the HD pack. However Dialog will be able to increase it's revenue by reasonably pricing the channels as add-ons.

We hope Dialog immediately adds a channel to the wasted channel slot on "Dialog Test Channel" and adds channels to the other two test channels on the newest transponder which carries the HD channels or removes the test slots and allocate that bandwidth to the HD channels.

We hope Dialog completes the decoder replacement and starts converting to MPEG4 DVB2 within the course of this month. The last time a conversion was to occur the replacements took place over a period of months & ultimately it died a natural death. We hope the same is not repeated once again.

Please keep us updated on the latest on Dialog TV as the days progress.

It would be nice to have the option of activating individual channels or day pass option for the HD packages. It would also be beneficial to Dialog since after the trial period the customer may purchase the full HD package, if satisfied.

Now this forum has become useless. Dialog Tv does not bother to listen to anyone. it says the number of people using Dialog Tv has gone up dramatically during past few months. So why should they worry about the complaints made by few people in this forum.
their income has gone up even with the same number of channels. So whats the matter. why people ask for more.
there are 3 test channel slots for almost one year without any programs . Still we are waiting for Sirasa.
It is better to use this forum to discuss other matters such as technological issues and new programs which are aired over these channels

I've a stupid question: what's the old "CBN Sat" package called in terms of Dialog TV new terminology?

Keyweez said...

The old CBNSat packages do not exist in the present DTV package offerings. DTV will retain the existing customers on the old CBN packages until such time the customer wants to switch to a newer package. Once the switch is done, there is no returning to the old package.

This is what I heard from a person at DTV. Truth to be validated.

Are they doing some upgrade or channel change.....

Vishkid said...

To answer kirala's question, the old CBN package is called Garnett @ 1099/-. No one can get the package anew and Dialog is (not officially but subtly) encouraging package holders to switch to new ones so they can close of the few remaining ones and be done with it. That package is definitely worth more than 1099/- in the current terms though.
As Keyweez said, once you leave Garnett, there is no coming back; that's why I'm holding on to my two connections, even though I'm probably currently better off with Pearl at one location.
You can do everything else with those packages though - like add new channels, HD pack etc.

@vishkid

Guys - I hv to second what Don noted above. In Sri Lanka, the current supply-demand mechanics dictate that Dialog can keep the same channels and same level of service whilst maintaining or increasing customers.
The overall DTH subscriber base in SL is still not large enough for the 2-3 companies to make real changes in terms of price or content.
So no use making false threats (like mass exodus from DTV)which Dialog knows to be BS. Where do you turn to? Indian DTH?? We all know they never took off in SL despite being available and promoted for a while.
So it's certainly better to use this forum for the time being to discuss technical issues and content highlights rather than making absurd demands - which DTV has no reason to listen to, because they keep attracting more customers with the same content and service.

But the increasing customer base is a good thing for customers, which will create an impetus for Dialog to take some action to retain those customers some time in future. But don't expect that to happen tomorrow, unless Carlton uncle decides to operate a DTH service!

Dialog broadband to expand
Takes over - Sky Television and Radio Network (Private) Limited

Dialog Axiata PLC announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Dialog Broadband Networks (Private) Limited (“DBN”), had entered in to a Share Purchase Agreement (“SPA”) with the shareholders of Sky Television and Radio Network (Private) Limited (“Sky”) for the acquisition of 100% of the ordinary shares in issue of Sky at a consideration of Rs 800 million.

Following the completion of the acquisition, Sky will be amalgamated with DBN. Sky is a licensed Pay Television Operator and is currently in possession of spectrum resources in the 2.3GHz spectrum band, assigned to Sky by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (“TRCSL”) for the provision of Pay Television Services.

The 2.3GHz spectrum band has been adopted globally for the provision of LTE Services and DBN’s Fixed LTE service launched in December 2012 is based on a 15MHz allocation within the said band.

The acquisition of a further spectrum resource in the same band would enable DBN to expand its fixed LTE service resulting in the expansion of its high speed broadband delivery capacity via LTE technology.
