Channel 71 testing.....

Commencing yesterday Dialog has been carrying out some sort of testing on Channel No 71 which is named as the "Dialog Test Channel". For the past year or so the channel has never been encrypted and has been left blank but from yesterday the channel has been encrypted indicating that some sort of testing is being carried out.

We are unable to confirm what the channel being tested is, hopefully it is an international channel and not a local channel since Dialog TV needs more international channels and not local channels. There have been no new international channels for SD package subscribers for several months and it's high time some new ones  at least one considering transponder capacity issues.

We are aware that some Maharaja channels such as Sirasa are down on their knees begging to be on Dialog TV, so being an pay television company Dialog TV should strive to give their subscribers more international channels than the third grade local ones.

Maybe Channel 71 will be a Maharaja one (they seem to be desperate now) or it will be a international one  hopefully tamil considering the low number of tamil channels on Dialog TV and the potential market for channels from the tamil speaking population, if English then it should be an Asian feed which will be far more desirable than any local channel.

Well we should know soon enough what Channel 71 is however introducing Sirasa or any other local channel on Channel 71 is much better than removing an international channel and adding Sirasa in it's place, Dialog tried this several months ago by trying to remove "Australia Network" in favour of a local channel but failed due to subscriber complaints. So even during 2013 Dialog shouldn't try to remove any of the international channels, if a local channel wants to come on board then increase transponder capacity and add them or remove a local channel to add another local channel but DON'T TOUCH INTERNATIONAL CHANNELS.

I am not a Sirasa fan. But I am pretty sure there are lot of subscribers who want Sirasa than who dont want Sirasa. Most of them are living outside from Colombo. Lot of people from outside from Colombo are buying DTV to watch local channels since they can not watch channels using an antenna. I am going around the country and living. People in some areas have tried with all type of antennas and they couldn't have a good quality pictures. This won't be an issue for the people are living cities like in Colombo,Kandy. So I personally know this. So I don't want to tell not to add Sirasa since most of DTV people want it. Still they can use channel 71 slot without touching any other local/international channels. I am also happy about that since other people will happy by a wasting DTV space.

If you think Sirasa is not a good Channel, it is the same for ITN or TNL. But personally I like Rupawahini. But I do not want to replace any local/international channels. But I like to see more local+International channels. But everybody knows there is a limitation with the transponder. So DTV guys? Why don't you think about your DTV customers? At-least use the blank space for a good channel.

Dear All;
I cannot understand why some people so much resisting for Sirasa arrival on to DTV platform, even Admin plays bias roll on this case. (Admin pls correct if I'am wrong). I do agree with the fact that any DTH service should be filled with good ch content and when you say good ch content obviously we have no choice to select any of Local ch in that category. So it is obvious that DTV should focus on getting good Inte CH in their line up and do the justice for the its subscribers).
But my point is, like ABC highlited...
1. People is the other parts (remote) of the country whom does not have a good terrestrial TV coverage compare to Colombo wants to get a LOCAL DTH like DTV to get the best coverage of local chs that they want.
2. If you compare any local ch with a Int CH.. local ch's have long way to GO...However each local CH targeting different set audience and specially SIRASA has its own set of fans around the island..and if you'll agree with me or not whatever good or bad in the local TV industry Sirasa being the pioneering all of them.. (i don't need to elaborate one by one, hope nobody would denied it)
3. Why some people are strongly against only for Sirasa arrival.. we did not see this resistance when CSN or Hiru coming to DTV line up (Dear Admin pls clarify your view on this)
Finally we don't want all three MBC chs as we have enough similar content in DTV line up already.

Cheers.........

If you want to watch international channels dear Colombo people, why don't buy Peo TV or watch online since most of them have huge data packages at home & at work & even on the go. You can consume Gigs of data just on that. But, most of rural people don't have thousands of money to spend on big data packages & also have difficulties using Peo TV since it's already gone overcapacity & have problems laying cables in rural areas.

Does BeTV audio appear in sync with video? For me the channel is unwatchable because audio is out of sync. Anyone else having this problem?

Cheers for the new year people!
Hope dialog finalizes whatever the channel replacement for BBCE asap and take BeTV out of test status. It's really disconcerting to watch the out of sync audio-video and I've noticed this (albeit slightly) on some other channels as well.

For those who are pleading for Sirasa - I feel for you, 'cos you're newbies by definition. Those who went through the 2006 era with Maharaja then would understand the skepticism with MBC by original CBN/DTV subscribers who created this blog. Anyways, the past is not always a good indicator of future, so hope DTV will add whatever good channel to the blank test channel. But replacing an international channel (even a shitty one) for MBC will not be tolerated and will not happen, bottomline!

Also, those who are wondering why DTV seems to be pandering to "colombo people" - it's economics 101 as I've explained earlier. A customer paying Rs 3000 + taxes for his/her DTV is simply worth 5 customers paying only 600. Because it takes less admin, less service, less of everything and most probably the bill is automatically settled as well. So you see, DTV is financially and operationally duty bound to serve those with priority. Islandwide coverage is also important but only to ensure they don't lose marketshare to the competition :) That's - just - it!

Happy New Year All....

With the New year comes the anticipation of the MBC channels.
I can confirm what rupavahini said a few posts back that DTV is ready with 2 channels ( according to my reports SIRASA & SHAKTHI ) but MBC wants to launch all 3 together. They want to use DTV to promote the "ever-failing" channel 1 MTV. So an end of the month or earlier launch is for certain.

I cannot confirm if any channel/s will be replaced.

In other news, VARNAM TV is also waiting in the Q to come on board. MBC is not very happy about this as well.

Please anybody can tell me the contact number of Ridhee TV?

If anybody knows please can you give us?

Happy New Year to all!

Well, it seems our folks at Dialog are up to something. From about 5pm this evening the transponder which carries a majority of the local channels seemed to be having trouble, broadcasting with audio but without the picture. At one point, the names of the channels went missing and then Hiru TV was replaced with Rupavahini even though Rupavahini already had a slot. Pretty sure Dialog would've got some nasty phone calls since none of these channels will tolerate being off air during prime time. After around 8.30 pm, everything was back as it was.

Any explanations as to what went on? Breakdown?

When i call DTV @ around 7.30, they told me some upgrading was going on.

As of now the "dialog test channel" has been shifted to the last slot after the HD channels.
