Australia Network to be replaced by "LOCAL" channel

In a move that can be classed as well below stupid, Dialog TV have decided to replace "Australia Network" with a "new LOCAL channel" from 26th August onwards, according to a scroll presently running on Dialog TV. It's bad enough that Dialog TV have to replace channels but to replace Australia Network with a "LOCAL" channel is insane. Why would anyone want to watch a local channel over Australia Network. In addition if this so called "LOCAL" channel is a Sinhala language channel then it will be a double blow since an English language channel is being replaced by a Sinhala language one.

This shows that Dialog TV are now desperate to add new channels without improving existing transponder capacity. Channel replacements are bad and replacing any channel with a new channel or time sharing it with another is not an option Dialog TV should even consider, even though sadly they are carrying out those unethical practices. If Dialog TV are to introduce a new "LOCAL" channel then they should replace it with an existing local channel, International Channels should never be replaced to make room for "LOCAL" channels.

We urge the management of Dialog TV management to reconsider and replace the "New Local Channel" with another existing local channel or refrain from replacing until transponder capacity to increased. Converting to MPEG4 from MPEG2 is now very urgent. No one wants Dialog TV to have more local channels that International channels. Subscribers don't pay for watching local channels. Dialog TV should get their business plan in order and decide if they are going to be a pay television network that carries International channels or a facilitator of local channels.

It's time for subscribers to take to their phones and call Dialog TV and urge them to stop channel replacements and time sharing of channels. The agreement that subscribers sign with Dialog TV may contain the provision to change channels anytime but such a practice is highly unethical and is a violation of subscriber rights.

In other news it should be noted that "Swarnvahini" has been added to the list of PVR enabled channels. Please keep us updated on the latest on Dialog TV as the days progress.

We dont know wahat the Local Channel is.... But replacing with Aus Net is a very bad movement.

DTV should shift to MPEG4 first and they can add more channels. Do the MPEG4 movement ASAP and give us a better service.

yes.there are no local channels with good content.if seriously needed why not replace with city hits, tnl, channel c or swarnawahini

TNL would be the channel to replace with poor quality pictures and programs. Swarnawahini should be there and I dont mind removing city hits either but not channel C.

Sirasa? was boasting not to share their channels with any other platforms before, wanted to do it alone, looks like Sirasa failed to get DTH license from TRCSL.will never get.

the scrolling message has disappeared from Australia Network Channel. i think they abandon the replacement.

Dr.Muditha Liyanagama said...

may be adding to dialog test channel istead of replacing australia network

Hope they don't do this stupid thing. If anyone wants Sirasa, they can sacrifice TNL/CitiHits or some other s#!&.
Australia Network CAN be replaced, but only by a global channel of better quality programming.

Sirasa Shakthi, MTV Sports get the rights to add DTV. Dtv will replace Australian Network and add three channels for Australian Network Space with effect from 26 august. This is very bad...Dialog have to move Megp4 ...other wise u cant do anything..

oshada said...

@priyantha, is that true? How did u get that news? How did they replace those 3 channels? Plz explain.

oshada said...

that was an good news for local channel viewers

Priyantha, is it like the three channels will time share in Dialog TV? and replace Australian Network?

Dr.Muditha Liyanagama said...

why not dialog tv time share all 83 channels in single space with 1/2 hr for each channel?if dialog tv going to time share sirasa/shakthi/mtv in single slot that will be the end of dialog tv.i am going to throw away dialog tv and get a batapola antenna so that i will have all local channels separately at no cost.

9.30 AM on 26th August. Yet no such thing.

If dialog really needs to replace something, then why dont you try to NDTV and NDTV good times.

I dont know does that channel has so much audience here in sri lanka.

As per rest. Keep all the rest (may consider about fox traveller, don't know, shall have more audience for this).

anyhow. keep the rest of the channels untouched. They are are cashcows.

No New Local channel(Sirasa) Yet................I don't think dialog has abandoned this move .Definitely there must be something fishy & worse.

i hope dialog will replace cctv, nhk, and cityhitz with some important channels.

oshada said...

i thought nhk world is a wanted channel for subscribers, there is 3 unwanted channels cctv world news, citihitz, and 71st free slot. If dialog do that replace that was a good replacement. But i didn't think so dialog will do that thing(maharaja replacement).
