Siyatha TV replaced by CCTV 9

Yes! It's another free to air channel. From this morning Siyatha TV has been replaced by "CCTV 9" the english language channel of china's state run broadcaster CCTV.

For some weird reason Dialog TV seems to be more interested in adding FTA news channels over quality pay television channels. CCTV 9 is similar to NHK World and with a world of quality channels out there, we do not understand why the Dialog TV management is sleeping on the job and adding only FTA channels.

Soon the number of FTA channels may outnumber the pay channels on the platform.

We hope the management of DTV awake from their deep slumber. They should immediately upgrade to MPEG4 broadcasting so that they can add more channels to the platform by reducing transponder costs.

Please keep us updated on the latest on Dialog TV as the days progress.

Why Admin and most users want basically entertainment channels?
NHK is a very good channel. They telecast programs like science Zero. So don't call NHK and also CCTV as a crappy channel.
Of course DTV has a shitty management. They should convert to MPEG4. And add more channels. Like Beyond, Discovery Science and WB. CNBC is a another good net work.
Dialog TV can't just add channels and remove them so quickly. I watched FX's shows for 3 months. now I can't watch those. It's heart breaking. So, if they add channel they should think twice as a responsible company.
They even don't let to use FTA capabilities. Also our Rs.18,000 is for only connection. If we disconnect their connection they take our equipments. So, Why we pay 18,000. We should unite and take some action. What you guys think?

@Vishwaje;
I think we really shud take an action redarding DTV blocking FTA channal capability on decorders. We they do not refund the money we must have the right to do whatever with our decoders. Shall we right a petition to the TRC?? I think we can argue with them.

As confirmed by DTV CC. There is a special Avurudu offer on DTV. Connection fee 9990/= and you get one month rental free on the pkg that you select.

But I think they should give the full channels free for one month. :)

@ sattvmania
I agree with you. Number of chnls is not the issue.... It has to be worth chnls for us. As we dont want those chnls which belongs to India. Sinhala, English and Tamil would be ok for us... No need of Hindi Stuff.... And DTV is having a good collection of chnls anyway...

Sri Lanka's DTV adds sports to lure subscribers

Mar 27, 2010 (LBO) – Sri Lanka's Dialog Television (DTV) is adding sports content, aims to increase revenue with advertisement targeting affluent consumers and forecasts a sharp rise in subscribers by year-end, a senior official said.
"We expect DTV subscriptions to go up to 200,000 by year-end from the present 160,000," Nushad Perera, chief executive of DTV said.

"We control 95 percent of the local pay television (TV) market. Every Sri Lankan hotel and hospital is on DTV."

Perera was speaking at a DTV product forum organized for top advertisement agency executives.

Advertising rates on DTV are at 7,500 rupees for a normal commercial, but the rates are flexible, he said.

He said exclusive sponsorships can be arranged on specific DTV programs at a premium rate.

DTV, a satellite-based broadcaster, is a unit of Dialog Telekom, Sri Lanka's largest celco.

"We see that many large agencies include DTV in their advertizing bouquet," Shamil Zavahir, executive director, new media at Vanguard Management Services said.

"It's truly an alternative to mainstream media and helps you to reach groups with deeper pockets more cost-effectively.

"From April 1 new channels including sports and cartoon content will be added."

Vanguard Management Services inked a deal with DTV to market its advertisement space six months ago, Zavahir said.

Sri Lankan free-to-air channel ETV, business new TV shows Lanka Business Report and LBR Money, along with web portals LBO and Vimasuma, and life style web portal Colombo Spirit are also managed by Vanguard Management Services.

"We are a small but nippy player and always look at new opportunities," Zavahir said.

He said despite DTV being able to provide crystal clear broadcasts most of its business is generated from the western province, Sri Lanka's richest region that accounts for 50 percent of gross domestic product.

DTV's second largest market is southern Sabaragamuwa province, Perera said.

DTV is not a niche product and wants to break the barrier in the pay TV market, Perera said.

"People thought pay TV is for the rich and famous," Perera said. "DTV is not a niche product. It's not playing golf or a Mercedes Benz."
