Problems that are annoying subscribers

As reported several the pixelation problem on the HBO channels that have been highlighted over & over again has not been corrected prompting us to write a post on this issue. Fast moving pictures on HBO are almost impossible to watch due to the severe pixelation so hopefully this will prompt Dialog to take steps to correct this problem.

In addition there is some severe freezing problem on AXN during peak viewing time and this too has to be corrected. The quality of Zone Reality leaves much to be desired and hopefully this is sorted out too.

Star Movies goes off air specially during bad weather conditions for a few minutes and anyone watching a movie at that is left in the lurch and hopefully this is corrected. These are just some of the many that Dialog has to correct. Subscribers are not asking for overnight correction but rather a step by step approach where some progress is seen instead of utter ignorance.

We hope that Dialog provides a direct link with some personnel at the Engineering department instead of subscribers wasting time trying to explain the problem to the usually illiterate executives at the call centre who do not know the difference between Stereo and Mono or do not understand what a pixel means. We hope that the Chief Executive of Dialog makes note of this very soon, since the standard & knowledge of Dialog TV Call Centre Executives is not even close to one of the sister companies.

In other news non of the new channels have been unscrambled as yet and there is no official confirmation on the launch date and what the new channels will be. We expect a launch hopefully by the first of March.

Please keep us updated on the latest on Dialog TV as the days progress.

I dont think Dialog will ever correct these problems unless we take action. I urnestly appeal to all customers to write to DTV management about this problem.

I have reliable info regarding the new TP. DTV won't introduce a lot of new channesl with the new TP. At the moment, CNA (Channel News Asia) is confirmed to be added to the new TP. They are still negotiating with SUN Network regarding their channels. At the moment, they are working on moving other channels from TP1-3 to TP4 to increase quality. So, expect better quality soon. So,basically TP4 will accomodate some channels from other TPs to increase quality.

Services in U.K. and U.S.A. are backed by large amounts of wealth and they can afford to reduce prices. The first few years the services run at a complete loss and later profit thanks to large numbers of customers.

Unfortunately Dialog Telekom is not such a rich company and they are in greater risk of loss when they experiment with prices.

Therefore Dialog has to be careful not to get themselves bankrupt. But at the moment the pricing structure still is more that necessary, I believe.

AS FOR TECHNOGUY SINGAPORE/MALAYSIA THIS ARSHOLE IS GOING SHOPPING FOR DTV AND SAYING DIALOG TELECOM IS NOT A WEALTHY COMPANY.IF I AM RIGHT WHEN THEY STARTED THEIR MOBILE OPRTATION THEY HAD THE LOWEST RATES COMPARED TO THE MORE ESTABLISHED PLAYERS AND THUS CAPTURED THE MARKET THROUGH IT (THOUGH THE QUALITY IS SHIT) IN CONTRAST WITH DTV THEY ARE PLAYING THE OTHER WAY AROUND HIGH RENTALS AND NO PENERTRATION,FIRST YOU HAVE TO GET A LARGE CUSTOMER BASE WITH AFFORDABLE RENTALS AND THEN THINK ABOUT PROFITS(AS THEY DID IN THEIR MOBILE OPERATION)

IN THIS REGARD I THINK ROMESH ANTHONY AND THE CLAN,WHO DOESNT SEEM TO KNOW A SHIT ABOUT DTH ARE MISLEADING THE DTV HIGHER UPS FOR THEIR OWN SURVIVAL,AS FAR AS THIS ROMESH ANTHONY IS THEIR I DONT THINK DTV IS GOING TO SUCEED.

APART FROM THIS SUDDENLY THIS ROBOT GUY CROPS UP FROM SINGAPORE/MALAYSIA AND GOES SHOPPING FROM DTV,THIS KIND OF A MF'S WHO LETS DOWN THE GENERAL CUSTOMER BASE OF DTV SHOULD BE HANGED.

Yes you guys are correct SRI LANKA IS A POOR COUNTRY. AND this one also true, "SRI LANKAN PEOPLE ALSO POOR LIKE SRI LANKA" BUT Dialog Telekom ISN'T a poor company, its a blue chip company in Sri Lanka with the backing of Telecom Malaysia. So don't try to go shopping for Dialog Telekom, as customers you must try to get services for affordable price, which suiting to your SRI LANKAN POOR WALLETS rather than trying to fill Dialog Telekom's rich wallet. So guys try to get Dialog TV into correct track and don't fell into FREE DECODER OFFER TRAP AS I SAID EARLIER IN MY PERIVIOUS POSTS.

How do u say DihTV is the best?

Don't think about the quantity of channels and the rental. think about the contains.
Is there any good Asian feed channel in DishTV? Is there any Ad free channel in DishTV?
So how to become DishTV the best?

DTV is the best !!!

Unknown said...

Dtv is the BEST

Unknown said...

What is the difference ???
90% of the DTV channels are indian feeds !!!

But the quality of sports channels on Dish TV is far ahead of DTV !!!

Unknown said...

Even Sirasa TV is using a Dish TV connection to show CB series !!!
Here is the VC no:

01504015998

So how can you say using Dish TV in Sri Lanka is illegal ??? Sirasa TV and all the other TV stations use Dish TV to get ESPN, STAR, BBC etc !!

They've been using it from 2006 !!

As alf say 619 talks rubbish without knowing the facts !!!

Dialog recently started testing its terrestrial services. If they acquire Multivison, they will have a terrestrial service up and running.

This is almost similar to how they started Satellite services. Just took over CBN and presto, they have satellite service.

By the way I notice TP4 signals are at 75% level. Was it like that from the beginning or have they improved that?

Unknown said...

And Dish TV gives you Active services. While watching the match you can see highlights whenever you want and you can watch the match from a camera angle you would like to using Dish Active !!!!

All these and much more for INR 300 per month !!!

You are fools to praise DTV and go after them !!! Look for other quality options !!!

What i was telling you is research and get value for money !!!!

@Blogger Dulith

See now you are saying that i am promoting DTV in the previous comment. I am sorry if i have heart you or attacked you in nay manner. but pls check my previous comments i have never mentioned any commending or promoting comment on DTV. I have just explain what i have done with them that’s all.

And I am a 1400 user been wit CBNsat times as well and i have many issues regarding the DTV such as new prize structure and not giving the second connection for 0 rental or at least not providing our chance to get a second 1400 package.

I have posted earlier as Chami_Tv and now i have lost the password so i am in this login. I have been blaming enough of DTV attitudes and have severely commented on them when they did not broadcasted world cup in channel eye. I did not like them at that time and still have issues over many things but i have mentioned that they came and did the work in 5 mins not becoz they are good but becoz its an easier work to connect the second one.. and In my previous post i have mentioned they told me the difference between the signal strength is due to ne decoder but its would be wrong (lie)it should some thing to do with the length.

It seems like you need me to comment bad things on DTV.. well i whave done and i will do so in future too when ever they take basd thing and commend on all the best.

Even this not an insult to u but to clarify my position and infact i have never put down dish tv and i am having that connection which is out of service now as i have bought it from Star tv lanka. I know that in price wise they are best with and may be the channel combination too, and i have ask if i can buy the new package from the new people but they told i have to buy a decoder again.. as they are tagged together..

And even if you are a regular or blogger or not i do not mind and the above is the truth and if you can make a way in which i can activate my star tv lanka to dish tv package to a full one with new rental i will still move becoz i repeat they are best than DTV and there software is also very user friendly.. And i hate dtv in many ways but in the second connection thing they did a job it was fast but still they could have give the rental free for being with them from the beginning.

But please do not insult the others through the blog without any valid reasons I reckon you to check my previous comment and tell me where I have promoted DTV the buiness minded tv to which we are attract becoz I do not have any other option…

Sirasa is not showing the CB series Channel Eye is showing it. Sirasa uses clips from a DishTv connection to show in their news bulletin

Dish Tv is technically illegal in Sri Lanka because they are showing the Indian beam of Str Movies,HBO & Axn where as the owning companys of those channels have designated Sri Lanka under sout eas asia beam. That is one of the reasons why DTV cant sell connections in INDIA. Dish TV have not got the legal authority from TRC to broadcast television channels in Sri Lanka if You remeber CBNSAT was closed by the Goverment citing this reason. As i said all these are technical reasons for practical purposes its impossible to stop DIShTV & TataSky connections in Sri lanka

Comparing between DTV and Dish i think its all the personal prespective of each person to decide whats best. If you dont mind advertisments bewteen movies as in HBO and Star mOvies and delayed air dates of series like in AXN by all means go for dishTV.
As everybody in the blog knows i've been very critical of the quality issues of DTV so i wouldnt say DTV is the best far from it they have a long way to go but if they sort out the quality issues and get the BBC entertainment channel I wouldnt hesitate to call it the best provider of DTH in South asia.

What's "TORANA TV" lanka info have mentioned before, which is due to launch in March? Anybody knows anything about it?

Unknown said...

@ Cable

Yes ! I was refering to the news feeds of Sirasa TV.

There is no legal or technical issue to use Dish TV connections in Sri Lanka !!!

Satnet and Telecave and so many other dealers around Sri Lanka have got the dealership and selling the connections. If you look into the HitAD section of Sunday Times (Even yesterday) You could find a few !!!

If it is illegal why does the authorities keep their mouth shut. We all know who owns satnet. But what about the rest then ???

So this is a myth created by DTV staff saying Dish TV is illegal and not practical and so on.

We have reliable information that some senior officials of Dialog is also using Dish TV in their homes !!!

So what about us ???

I'm just giving some info for the subscriber to decide !!!!

I quote from the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri lanka website below
http://www.trc.gov.lk/licences.htm

"In terms of the Sri Lanka Telecommunication Act No. 25 of 1991 as amended Government Statutory clearance is required for the operation of a telecommunications system to provide services to the public. The Commission will make recommendations to the Hon. Minister on the issue of Licenses under Section 17 of the Act"

Do you think that DishTV has accquired such a license?

I never said there is a technical issue regarding the use of DIshTv in Sri lanka.

"If it is illegal why does the authorities keep their mouth shut"

If you live in sri lanka this shouldnt even be a question as i said in my earlier post there is a vast difference between Theory and Practice specially in sri lanka as you may well know

"I'm just giving some info for the subscriber to decide !!!!"

i am just qualifying your statements by the information i have as like you i want everyone to make a choice after ALL information is availbale to hime/her

Dish TV do not need a licence from TRC-SL as they do not broadcast from Sri Lanka.

If you argue on that all the sat transmissions coming to SL should get the TRC licence. But it is not so !!!!!

So what are you telling me now ????

What are the positive things in DTV ???

cable said...

@srinimal

what part of the following paragraph did you not understand

"Government Statutory clearance is required for the operation of a telecommunications system to provide services to the public"

all sat transmissions coming to SL dont need to get a TRC license. but if they are to be legally operate a television cserivice(i.e.:- dth operation) they have to get a license from the goverment.if you followed the court case during the CBNSAT closure you would have been more informed.

DISH TV & TATA sky have got the necessary authority from the INDIAN goverment to run a DTH operation there. Indian goverment will only give a license to DTH operators broacasting their services through a ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) approved satellite hence the delay for launching of Bluemagic DTH service through the lack of approved satellite space. DTV can also be seen by Indian viewers if they have a DTV decoder but DTV can not legally sell their decoders in india. There is intrest about DTV decoders from indian customers as can be evidenced from saveondish.com forums

There is an addtional restriction as i have said in my earlier post regarding content providiers(Star Movies,HBO,AXN) grouping sri lanka in sout east asian beam

if you still cant understand legal implications vs the actual reality i am sorry i cant simplyfy my explanation much further

The positives of DTV what i see is
-No Advertisment Movie Channels HBO boquet and Star Movies, Tv Series aired much earlier (AXN asia instead of AXN India)much less "crap" channels (channels in HIndi, malayalam, kannada) this is user centric as some ppl would like Hindi channels, Better picture quality than DIsh tv's HBO(dish tv viewers will attest to the fact that the picture is very dark in the HBO channel),free decoder for premium package customers DishTv or TataSky dosent offer this to the best of my knowlege,Connection in your own name/address as oppossed to some indian dudes name/address

Unknown said...

@ Cable

You try so hard to convince that use of Dish TV in Sri Lanka is illegal. But it isn't.

Yes ! As per your description they dont need a licence from TRC as they DO NOT operate their system on SL territory.

So there is not much of a legal complication or whatever reason for us to not to use Dish TV.

All the positive facts you said is correct. But is it reasonable to charge LKR 1949/= for that ???

I hope not !!!! That's my point !!! DTV rates are not only the highest in the region but in the whole world !!!

very Good Idea but will they do it?

So far they don't have online billing system Like Dialog Mobile.

I think still they don't know what they are doing.

Tharu said...

@ thusitha &looser

During CBN Sat times they had the online payment system and it was very convenient with the option of viewing your past transactions too. Also they were in the process of introducing a system to chnage the packages and even the order of channels appearing on your decoder (called MYCBNSat). But then, they were sealed.

Being a very futuristic company DTV is nowhere closer to them.

The only way you can pay your DTV bills online is through Sampath Payeasy. But this take a couple of days for your payment to get updated.

cable said...

@srinimal

As i said i dont know how to simplyfy my points further than i have already done but i'll give one last try

According to the Sri Lankan Law a license from the Goverment of sri lanka is needed to operate television channels. (Do you accept this?)

DishTv has no license from the Goverment of Sri Lanka to operate telelivsion channels in Sri Lanka

So if you are watching an unlicensed television channels it is technically against the letter of the Law hence DishTv is illegal in Sri Lanka.

DishTv dosent need a license from Sri lanka because officially they dont give connections to Sri Lanka(try getting a connection from Dish Tv directly giving a name and adreess in Sri lanka!)The signal being available in Sri lanka is because of the technology used DISHTV cannot restrict the satelite Beam to only India under the technology available as per now.

However this dose not mean i am against the usage of DishTV in Sri Lanka more the merrier i say but this dosent derive from the fact that it is illegal.

"But is it reasonable to charge LKR 1949/= for that ??? "

I have no disagreement with you In my opnion it's not reasonable

I don't know about this legality business, but I do know that Srinimal's comments break a few Commenting Rules of this blog.

> "Discussions should be limited to Dialog TV."

Srinimal breaks these rules in the first comment (today, 9:43 AM) itself.

Feb. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Dialog Telekom Ltd., the Sri Lankan unit of Telekom Malaysia Bhd., said full-year profit, including that of units, fell 11 percent on losses from setting up a television subsidiary.

Net income fell to 8.97 billion rupees ($83 million) for the year ended Dec. 31 from 10.1 billion rupees a year earlier, Colombo-based Dialog, Sri Lanka's biggest mobile-phone operator, said in an e-mailed statement. Sales rose 27 percent to 32.5 billion rupees.

Dialog's subscriber growth will match last year's 44 percent as it provides new services, including pay television, Chief Executive Officer Hans Wijayasuriya said in November. The television unit reported a loss of 788.5 million rupees in the year, the company said.

``The television unit is still making losses, but it will reflect significantly to profit by 2009,'' Yolan Seimon, research manager at John Keells Stock Brokers Ltd. in Colombo, said before the results were announced.

@ Cable

1. Dish TV does not operate a television channel from Sri Lanka. So they do not need a licence from SL GOV. (Hope you remember SLGOV have stopped FTV being uplinked from SL. But still the HK uplink can be received in SL)

You have to understand that the licence needed is for uplinking from SL territory. Any GOV does not have control over downlinks !!!

Dont come here and talk nonsense. Under the SL law it is legal to receive any signal coming to SL for personal purposes. But for rebroadcasting you have to obtain neccesary rights.

And dont talk about the things you dont know !!! You can get a DishTV connection to your name if you want to !!!

Here is one VC no : 01500203161

You can check the owners details on : http://www.dishtvindia.in/Static/renewalformHome.asp

SO PLEASE DONT TALK OF THINGS YOU DONT KNOW !!!!
