Subscribers receiving schedules

Subscribers of Dialog TV are reportedly receiving their schedules for the month of March 2007. Over the past few days several subscribers are said to be receiving the schedules. Although not all the Dialog TV channels are available in the booklet, we are happy to note that this is at least a start and we hope that more channels are included in the schedule for the month of April.

Since this is the first schedule the subscribers are not complaining about the delay but we stress that from April arrangements should be made for subscribers to receive the schedule by the beginning of the month and not later than that.

We are made to understand that the schedule says that payments can be made at all the locations that accept Dialog GSM bill payments. This is great since subscribers need not travel to the Bambalapitya office to make the payments and is indeed very convenient for the subscribers.

With the reference to DTV BLOG viewers, what is your viewpoint with regard to BLOGGER’S comment? Source: (http://www.dialogtv.blogspot.com)
it’s a forum where most of the competitors come and play around. Also only few customers are active here, but it can add value, In terms of CBN times, most were active to get CBN back. Also this is will be a future marketing tool.

EVEN THOUGH THE PICTURE QUALITY AND THE SOUND QUALITY IN SET MAX IS GOOD, THERE IS A HUGE DELAY IN TRANSMISSION. ( LIKE 5 SECONDS)

FIRST OF ALL ,I WATCHED THE MATCH FROM CHANNEL EYE ( NORMAL TV FROM THE LOCAL ANTEANAE) AND CHRIS GAYLE GOT OUT. AND THEN I SWITCHED THE CHANNEL TO SET MAX. THERE HE WAS STILL PLAYING. AFTER ABOUT SOMETIME HE GOT OUT.

WHAT A SHAME DTV !!!!!!! NO USE WATCHING THE CRICKET MATCH ON SET MAX BCOZ OF THE HUGE DELAY. BCOZ THE NORMAL GUYS WHO ARE WATCHING WOULD GET TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE WE DO.

SO FOR GODS SAKE DTV , PLEASE SOLVE THIS PROBLEM!!!!

THOUGH I HAVE TO APPRECIATE THE GOOD SOUND AND PIC QUALITY.

ANYONE WHO KNOW ANYTHING REGARDING THIS PROBLEM PLEASE COMMENT....

THANX

Lightning_Struck_Tower said...

""EVEN THOUGH THE PICTURE QUALITY AND THE SOUND QUALITY IN SET MAX IS GOOD, THERE IS A HUGE DELAY IN TRANSMISSION. ( LIKE 5 SECONDS)""

It's called the propagation delay. This is because the signal is beamed down from a satellite. The signal speed is limited by the speed of light (no signal can travel faster than speed of light) and this is which causes the delay.

Dialog or dishtv or Setmax cant do anything about this; its normal for satellite communications.

Radikal Zee said...

picture freezing screwing it up !!!
DTV u hav 2 do sumthing or b prepared to freeze up urself...
ridiculous..after d hype u gave

cuteguy said...

@ Lightning Struck Tower,

I never guess that. Thanks for the information. BUT I HAVE A QUESTION. SAT IS HOW ON EARTH IS CHANNEL EYE GETTING SIGNALS FROM? IT REALLY SHOULD BE FROM A SATELLITE PLZ EXPLAIN.

LETS JUST PUT AWAY THIS SMALL PROBLEM. ( THE DELAY WHICH IS USED TO BE NORMAL)THERE IS NO SIGNAL. AND IT SAYS E48 NO SIGNAL? WHY IS THAT? AND THE FREEZING IS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE REGULARLY. I THINK MAYBE CHANNEL COULD HAVE BEEN A FAR MORE BETTER CHOICE.

Lightning_Struck_Tower said...

""SAT IS HOW ON EARTH IS CHANNEL EYE GETTING SIGNALS FROM? IT REALLY SHOULD BE FROM A SATELLITE PLZ EXPLAIN.""

I am no expert in this area. But i think this is because Eye gets a direct link from broadcaster via satellite.

In the case of DTV, SETmax gets the direct feed, it's uplinked to PAS12 satellite (delay), and then it's down linked to receivers through satellite (more delay).

Therefore the delay in DTV (receive + uplink + downlink) feed is slightly longer than delay in channel eye (receive and terrestrial broadcast) feed.

hope someone who's an expert in this area can correct me if i am wrong.

bank_dude said...

Actually Channel Eye gets the direct signal. Not via SET Max I think. For DTV it's SET Max -> uplink -> downlink -> DTV -> uplink -> downlink. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Further Channel Eye is far more better than SET Max. The time taken for advertisement is less than SET Max. Therefore we can see more on Eye. The only drawback is Eye reduced it's picture size in order to accomodate scrolling ads (bar ads) on the bottom of the screen. It's good that Eye telecast the WC rather than Sirasa because we can watch all six balls of the over as well as the replay when the batsman got out. As a backup I think setting up a normal antenna is must because SET Max picture started to freezes heavily yesterday. The funny thing is when the signal is there, picture freezes but Eye can be wathced without inturruption. DTV has to do something because reasons to promote DTV is to give un-inturrupted service with less ads. But looking at yesterday's events Eye is far more better that DTV.

DTV and Mr.Ramesh Anthony has screwed up in style,I dont think they have the slightest idea how this picture freezing take place,How dumb they are to have waited till the last moment to solve a issue like this. The much hyped DTV coverage of SETMAX is a disgrace to company with a reputation such as DIALOG.

DLR said...

Hey Mr. Nushad,
What a shame,
SET MAX continously freez. Even though small cloude in the sky my decorder turn to red light about 10 min (Kesbewa) at 10 p.m. Your add free uninterrupted service is your another lie.

Hey boss, Don't lie to your customers

bwick said...

RTD (Round Trip Delay) on satellite cannot be avioded. Just for information if you send a data packet to Singapore via SAT it would take 550ms for roundtrip whereas on SEA-ME-WE4 undersea cable it would only take 30ms

Rob

Mario said...

Channel Eye gets the direct feed from the ground jus like SET MAX does, as well so many other different providers who take it to different parts of the world. The freezing may occur when SET MAX down/uplinks the feed or when DTV down/uplink it. Thats why the delay too.

As said earlier this delay is normal is sat transmission.

Also, there is a few second delay from when the actual incident happens in the ground to when it is shown on television. Around 2-3 secs, i beleive, due to the time take for the feed to be uplinked to the host sat.

Could we get an engineer from Rupavahini , DTV to clarify ?

Mario said...

Thanks Rob, useful info.

amd - Nothing wrong at the SETMAX end,A friend told me that DISHTV had given an uninteruppted and high quality transmission of SETMAX.

The problem is with DTV and i dont thin they have an idea of whats happening.

What they should do is change the location where they are transmitting from,Kotahena is not an area to set up a transmission centre with lot of disturbances all around,They should move to some location with minimal interfearances and enough space and have only the commercial operation at Kotahena.

I dont think they understand or care about.

Vishkid said...

Guys - the delay is an issue only if we go to compare! Eye might be showing it 5 seconds delayed than live action and DTV 10 seconds delayed than live action.

Anyways, both channels are delayed and that is of no consequence as the action is half a world away! This is the least of our worries.

The DTV marketing guys must be eating their words right now - they were quoted on last Sundays newspapers as well about the 6 ball overs and all the crap. I don't believe they hv much control over how Set Max telecasts but the Ads are making it worse on DTV than Eye.

Infact, the only thing going for DTV is the smaller size of Eye display to accommodate scrollers at the bottom .. but even that might be a good thing for Eye viewers as their match screen is unhindered unlike Set Max's.

I personally am not too bothered about this as I'm not in to cricket but cricket lovers would be a tad disappointed.

Admin and Subscribers Unite: I'm a bit worried about how DTV feels about this blog if the above posted interview by Lanka Info is correct.

It suggests that they would take our comments lightly or not in to consideration at all.

If that is the case - there is no use blogging here, ain't it? It's best to advise them to get their act together and get MyDTV running so we can at least hv our say there .... or are they ever gonna listen to anything except their own marketing hype?

TravelBoy said...

I soo agree with Don, D.L.R and a few others that DTV performance yesterday was very very POOR!!! First 20-30 mins of the match didnt have any commentry, then when the commentry came, the channel was freezing up, then for about 45 mins my decoder went 'red light' & i had nothing (it wasnt even raining in our area... only lightning... does that affect the signal?) and DTV's comments of having no adds.......... PLS!!!! Ultimately, i got so few up with my 1600 DTV package that i ended watching the match in Channel Eye... what a joke! If you ask me, DTV should pay ppl 200/- to watch the match not vise versa..... REALLY PISSED OFF MAN!

Btw, agree with Vishkid on the fact that Mr. Anthony has sooo not understood the value of this blog. If they take the time to follow the comments in the blog long enough, any fool will agree that the vibe given by the comments in the blog are valuable insight for DTV to take-in and work on. Apart from a few way side comments, DTV has a wonderful chance to get whats wrong with them from the horses mouth and fix it! But what do they do, this Fucking asswipe "Anthony" (pardon the language!) decides to conveniently brand the info as competitor based and comment that DTV will use this forum as a 'Marketing tool'!!!

Get real fool.... understand that this is DTV's best asset if used right!

Mario said...

Guys, lets jus be grateful that we at least have the chance to watch the match this way, and hope ( a lot & pray too !! ) that DTV will sort our this freezing problem SOON!

They have no control over the ADS on SET MAX.

If that interview is actually true, then, Mr. Anthony, i dont know where u studied ur marketing tactics, but kindly take this blog seriously or u might find all us at ur office one day with our dishes in hands ready to give u a piece of it !

I also agree that DTV should shift its earth station, no need to far, jus out of the heart of the city.

ADMIN: can we get an OFFICIAL INTERVIEW with Mr. Naushad or Mr. Anthony, or maybe an Engineering guy from DTV so we can have answers to all our questions ????

Looser said...

Freezing problem is from DTV and not from Setmax, I use both DTV & Dish TV. On DishTV no freezing at all on SETMAX or any other Sony channels. (Some channels on DishTV has this problem)

DishTV is delayed more than DTV!

Channel Eye is not showing from SETMAX they got it from Direct Link. Why can't Dialog get that link.

I feel very sorry for the customers who bought DTV to watch the Freezing WC. Sometimes no picture or sound at all for few minutes.

Hey DTV Team,
From the re-Starting your showing Zone reality instead of Reality TV. So why cant you use it's name. I received your Monthly schedule today (after missing 13 days) in that alos you have printed reality TV's logo instead of Zone reality.

Can any body tell me (KAlu or any DTV guy) when DTV is going to start their job in correct way?

The problem is I was realy enjoyed CBNSat, & how they comunicate with us. They used text screen method to apologies even for few miniutes interruption. Now DTV is cause to increas my blodd pressure too.

Do it right or Go home

I've been reading this blog for sometime now and I think it's great because guys like us can get answers for questions which Dialog guys does'nt tell us.

I have a problem, can anyone can help me?

I have a 1.7mhz centrino laptop running Vista Home Basic (OEM). I am about to buy a Dialog Sat. Since Vista includes Windows Media Center edition I wanted, naturally to connect my laptop to the decoder.

Can anyone tell me models of cheap external tuner cards in Sri Lanka and where to buy them. (Under Rs 20 000).

I don't need any advanced features, just decent quality with recording facility and it has to be external. [OMG, Why did I buy a laptop? :-( ]

Thanks

Vishkid said...

@ Raja:

Checkout this range from Mercury .. I guess they are the cheapest:

http://www.mercury-pc.com/p-subprod-list.php?link=p-addcards&subtitle=Add-On%20Cards&categoryid=50

Their agent is somewhere in colpetty?

You can also try your luck at some shops at MC. JapanSoft (or some such shop) has a PCMICA tuner card which might be usable in your laptop for 8000 bucks.

Like other in the blog, I have made the following observations with regard to broadcast of World cup matches.

Difference between SET Max & Channel EYE
• SET Max uses entire screen for picture while ‘EYE’ doesn’t show picture on whole screen. Therefore, SET Max image appears larger than ‘EYE’ image
•SET Max: Freezing and total picture loss at times
•SET Max: Many ads appear when game is played: All promises of ad-free matches by Dialog are lost. EYE is not so bad as SET Max
•In a lighter vein: Isn’t it better to watch local ads rather than Indian ones?
•Total signal failure (red light) for one hour last night: Rain
•Fortunately all customers, regardless of package, can choose between EYE and SET Max

BTW: Is the entire Zee package is given to all customers regardless of package?

DTV normally charges Rs. 250/= or so if you wish to change your package. Your call is recorded as proof of requesting a change of package.
