TV Derana now with PVR functions

Well those of you who have subscribed to Dialog's PVR have now been given an additional channel since TV Derana is now available for time shifting and recording on the Dialog PVR Decoder. Upto this point only TNL was the only local FTA channel available with PVR functions.

It's a bit ironic that mostly only foreign pay channels are enabled on the PVR but local FTA channels are dragging their feet when it comes to allow full PVR functions on their channels. We hope the fact that TV Derana is now available with full PVR functions will cause the other local FTA channels on Dialog TV to be fully PVR enabled.

In other news it should be noted that the quality of Hiru TV has improved drastically after the initial drop in quality once the FTA test transmissions were started.

Dialog TV still has one channel slot that is wastes names "Dialog Test Channel" & we hope it would be allocated to a new pay television channel preferably "Ten Action".

Please keep us updated on the latest on Dialog TV as the days progress.

Hiru TV, Ridee TV, Sony Six & more.....

Our apologies to our fellow bloggers for not updating the blog for a few weeks. Over the last few days subscribers have seen a significant drop in the Hiru TV test transmissions on Dialog TV. After maintaining a very high quality ever since the test transmission commenced towards the end of last year, now close to it's launch the quality has dropped drastically. We believe that this situation is not exactly the fault of Dialog TV but we hope the technical staff at Hiru TV & Dialog TV can take some steps to improve the quality further back to the standard that they maintained initially.

We have missed updating you folks on the launch of Ridee TV which replaced ETV. Other than that there has been nothing significant that we have missed to far.

Dialog still holds onto & wastes a channel space by testing "nothing". Dialog TV should seriously consider the expansion of channel capacity since they will need to add a few channels soon, otherwise subscribers will miss some serious sporting action. The IPL is being telecast for the last time on SET MAX next year it will be on Sony's latest sporting channel "Sony Six" from next year. The joint venture between ESPN Star Sports will be coming to an end soon, which will possibly result in the creation of a few more sports channels by the two channels individually under the ESPN brand & Star Brand.

Discovery Networks recently launch the "Discovery Kids" channel in this region & it will benefit Dialog TV in their business to add the channel to their lineup. So in the regional broadcasting industry things are really progressing fast but not on Dialog TV though.

Ten Action arguably the most requested channel has been sidelined even though one channel slot is being wasted by Dialog & there was a mindless & senseless channel sharing by replacing Ten Sports with Ten Action to satisfy some malaysian ego's to telecast the "Axiata Badminton Championship" a few weeks ago. We sincerely hope they were fully satisfied & the individual concerned who made the decision in Sri Lanka has got a truly deserving promotion to Axiata in Malaysia.

The sharing of other channels too still continue, this system very popular on FTA television but never heard of on pay television. As far as Dialog TV is concerned the Future is not exactly today.
