Unlike last time many Dialog subscribers are waiting patiently for the unveiling of the channels in the 4th TP. It also seems that Dialog are also taking their time unlike the last time they launched TP3 as it was not at all professional. But professional or not existing subscribers are still weary of how much extra these new channels will cost them and everyone is waiting to see if Dialog will pull off the "upgrade package" tactic again.
One thing is for sure, the last time when TP3 was launched, many subscribers did upgrade their packages but this time it will be very much less if not none considering the present cost of living. The only people who may upgrade will be millionaires and wonder how many of those Dialog has in their subscriber base.
During the last few days TP4 "CH2" has been renamed to "Ranaroo" but the channel is scrambled and this may not be unscrambled for some time. Pixelation across the other channels has risen to the frustration of many and Dialog should be thankful that there are not many viable options for subscribers because if there were then they would have lost many subscribers. Well as we said earlier, those who have money are buying Dish TV connections and downgrading their Dialog TV connections. The continuation of this trend will depend on how Dialog handles the allocation of the new channels that they will launch.
According to unconfirmed reports this will be the last month that Dialog TV will be posting programme guides since towards the end of this month, a separate channel slot will be allocated for the EPG only and Dialog should make sure that this is 100% correct. At present the Nat Geo Adventure EPG is wrong and it seems that it has some Nat Geo programmes listed too. Value Added Services are planned to launch along with the 4th TP and only time will tell what these are and how much they are priced at.
We hope that Dialog keeps price increases aside and instead focuses on selling more connections to cover up the operational cost and making profits thereafter. There are chances that some channels may be unscrambled over the weekend.
Please keep us updated on the latest on Dialog TV as the days progress.

If DTV hike there rentals our only hope is SET PLANS.(Not applicable for millionaire)
These people asking about Asian feed of every channel and not allowing to hike the rental.We cant expect quality thing for cheap! If DTV gives Indian feed like DishTV they also can give them for low rental.
Most of the people dont have time to watch all the channel. So the best thing is downgrade to a low rental package and get SETPLANS activated for your favorite channels.
We should look at every side of a problem before arriving at a conclusion
The only major complaint i have of DTV at present is that the picture quality is crap with pixelation on faster moving pictures.This is a very very major issue.
Talking about costs,
From DTV's side the costs alone for the transponders per one year is (1m * 4)4 million US$ thats about 400 million rupees. Then added to this will be the payments for channel providers,equipment costs,staff costs,..... etc
Dish Tv even though they started a long time ago than DTV is still running at a loss. The payments they make for channel providers are less than what DTV pays because Dish TV has the Indian Beam of HBO & AXN channels
If we put the costs at 500 million (this is an conservative estimate) dtv will need more than 310,000 customers subscribed to the 1610 package just to break even!
Any this is just my take on the situation
Reg DTV pic quality,
just went to Standard chartered Bamba, the had star sports on a SONY bravia LCD, the pic quality was not at all good, could see lots of dots, especially on the coloured clothing of the cricketers. But strangely there was no pixel issue when the camera moved fast across the ground.
just some info.
@amd
Sports channels by virtue of them showing sports displays fast moving pictures most of the time. I think DTV has adjusted the sports channels to overcome the pixelation effect.
Why cant they do this to the other channels?
@cable

Machang umba mona iskoletada giye?
Aththama kiyapang,Maths fail neda?
If it is 500mil rupees per year and all the customers are at 1610 package(this includes the tax mind you) then Dialog will need only 25879.9 customers.
They already have that number of customers.However their cost structure is much more complicated than that.i am sure they must be paying huge amounts to the content providers which you have not taken for your calculation.
I TOLD YOU GUYS THIS "LORD ANTHONY" OUR DELIGHTER HAS MESSED UP DTV AND IT WONT BE EASY TO COME OUT OF IT UNTILL DR.HANS WIJESURIYA INTERVENES,HAVE ANYONE SEEN THIS GUY AND IS HE FROM OUTER SPACE.
I PROPOSE FOR PEOPLE LIKE JESIKA,619(69),RUKMAL,FREEMAN.SHAMIN,RANAWEERA TO INTRODUCE A FUNDEMENATALIST,NGO,BORN AGAIN PACKAGE WITH A RENTAL OF 10 RUPEES.THIS MOTHER FUCKER CANT UNDERSTAND THAT 90% OF THE FEEDS IN DTV ARE ALREADY INDIAN FEEDS.
@dulith
oooops forgot it was the yearly cost not the monthly.
didnt go to school thats why i hang around internet sites commenting. lucky for me there's brainy guys like you who have passed maths to point out the obivious.
DIALOGTV Customers 58,250 for today
@ rupavahini
Thanks! any news on when the 4th TP channels will be unscarmbled?
My Calculations:-
Customers = 58250
Mean Income per Customer = (100+500+1099+1499+1949)÷5 = LKR 1029
Approx. Monthly Income = 58250*1030 = LKR 60 000 000
Approx. Annual Income = 60000000*12 = LKR 720 000 000
Fee per Transponder = LKR 100 000 000
Total Transponder Fees = LKR 400 000 000
Equipment and Maintainance = LKR 100 000 000
Pay TV Channels = LKR 100 000 000
Advertising Expenses = LKR 50 000 000
Other = LKR 50 000 000
Total Expenses = LKR 700 000 000
None of the details here are facts. Many details close to the truth are averages and are rounded off. It's just a guess, nothing more.
MODA (FOOLISH) CALCULATION,ITS OK BECAUSE ITS JUST A GUESS.
DISH TV HAS 2,700.000 SUBSCRIBERS AS AT 31.12.2007 AND AVERAGE ADDITION FOR A MONTH IS 99,000.THE REVENUE FOR THE 3RD QUATER 2007(OCT,NOV,DEC) IS INDIAN RS 1,121 MILLION OR 3,139 MILION SRI LANKN RUPEES,THIS IS NOT A GUESS,BUT FROM THE PUBLISHED FINANCIALS.
TECHNOGUY MALAYSIA
WHAT IS THE PERFORMANCE OF STAR HUB SINGAPORE LOCATED 8000 MILES AWAY FROM SRI LANKA? WHY DONT YOU GET THE REAL FIGURES FROM THAT MUTT ROMESH ANTHONY THE DELIGHTER?
@ Alf
A මෝඩයා like me, interacting with other මෝඩයෝ, will only make me even more මෝඩ.
Therefore I will not reply to this nor any future comments from you, if they are against me.
(I hope you have Sinhala fonts to be able to read the key word up there. If not, sort it out for yourself.)
I think everyone should ignore what alf talking & go one commenting.
By the way can anyone know alf's address send him a keyboard with "Caps Lock" key working as I think his "Caps Lock" key stucked in on possition
now star sports freezes occasionally too!!!.... i was watching the match on starsports and once even the signal went out completely.... anyway... im STILL waiting for the tp4 channels... just like the rest of you'll im sure.
oh and, when you see dtv at a public place, like a restaurant or bank, keep in mind that your watching it from far away... so the pixxelation is not that visible most of the time. but i do agree that the sports channels have been improved even a tad bit to overcome motion pixxelation.
guys
what are the FOX channels on T4 ?

@ LANKA INFO
I agree with you. But Dish TV & Tata Sky focused on Indian customers, they are adding more locan language channels. No one can blame about that.
We're lucky that Dialog TV got Asian feeds of most of the channels as they are ads free.
Tks Dimu... & We to trying to put some Good quality channels (Asian FEED) very soon…

@LANKA INFO,
As far as Tamil channels are concern, DISH TV has few more good channels than DTV
DISH TV has following tamil channels in their line up:
1)SUN TV
2)SUN NEWS
3)KTV
4)CHUTTI TV
5)SUN MUSIC
6)WIN TV
7)KALAIGNAR TV
8)MEGA TV
9)MAKKAL TV
10)PODIGI
11)ISAI ARUVI
12)RAJ TV
13)RAJ DIGITAL
14)SS MUSIC
15)TOON DISNEY - Tamil Audio option
16)VIJAY TV
They will add few more including JAYA TV soon.
DISH TV has few more good English channels including TIMES NOW, cartoon channels.
As far as English move channels are concern, DTV has better option.
If DTV add FOX channels & Few tamil channels then it will be a better option than DISH TV.
But, what about price?
todey during house on axn at 7.30 to 8.30 the voice video coordination was way out.
i've noticed that axn quality has dropped drastically during the last couple of weeks
Dialog Mobile TV has some new channels.
I've posted some information in a comment at the main TV & Radio Sri Lanka blog.
Lanka Info,
So it seems DISH TV has most of the good channells which DTV is currently having.
Anyone who is going to have DISH tv connection is not going to miss much in comparison to DTV.
But when you compare the cost of DISH tv,it also appeared to be the cheapest.So in that context it is unthinkable how DTV is going to offer new channells with a increased price.
DTV must concentrate on increasing it's customer base( which is difficult with DTVs attitude ) rather than going for a price increse. ( which is more difficult in todays prices of essential items ).
Most of the existing customers, except very rich, will not go for the new channells if there is a price hike. DTV should understand this and make their plans accordingly.
@ Hsj…
Ok. True… Dish TV having 170+ channels…. 90% of channels are FTA. So they don’t need pay for the content & DISH TV paying only the rebroadcast charges.
But in here it’s totally different…. Coz 98% of channels that we having Pay channels. & DTV need to pay the Content charges as well as the rebroadcast charges.
FTA rebroadcast charge – 2 – 3/= Indian Rupee - approx
Pay Channel rebroadcast charge – Ex – Sun TV - 15Rs per Cx – Indian rupee
in the blog some time ago i heard that new channels will be available in the second week of feb.
hopefully something this week.
@lanka info
I am ok with the content given by DTV but the problem is the quality.
In my opinion DTV is far superior content wise than Dish TV.
Since you seems to be connected to DTV in some way could you please convey the pixelation issue to the management as a major concern of DTV customers. This issue should have been fixed a long time ago!
Now we can get a second free dtv connection just go to dialog center and give your ID if you are a primary package holder ( 1400 or 1999)
They will come and installed.Its tottaly free offer valid until 29 of february 2008
@chaminda,
What about the subscription. Is it goes as a mutiroom connection or another connection.
No its a different pacakge . but you can get any pacakge... suitable for annex
LANKA INFO IS OUR OLD KIDO- CMB THE DTV MANAGEMENT IS TRYING TO IDENTIFY THIS GUY WHO IS LEAKING THEIR CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION
AS FOR TECHNOGUY - SINGAPORE/MALAYSIA WHO IS SOMETIMES REPORTING FROM 8000 MILES AWAY,YOU ARE JUST A JOKER IN THE PACK WHO IS NOW TRYING TO GO SHOPPING FOR DTV,YOU WILL GET IN YOUR ARSE WHEN DTV PUTS OUT THEIR NEW PACKAGE STRUCTURE.
AS FOR DISH TV AND DTV ANYONE CAN DECIDE WHAT HE WANTS TO BUY,AND NO ONE IS GOING TO CONSULT FOOLISH LUNTATICS LIKE HIM WHO ARE MALAYSIAN.
The AD for the 2nd Decoder offer is in the front page of todays's daily news.
if you get the second decorder, you need to sign a contract for the first decorder saying dat ur not going to change ur package for six months. but u can choose any package for the second decorder.
nice offer
MUST BE A BRIGH IDEA OF ROMESH ANTHONY,HE WANTS TO DELIGHT US BY COMMITTING TO THE COSTLY PACKAGE,SO THE DELIGHTER IS EXPOSING HIS FOOLISHNESS AND THAT HE IS A REAL MUTT WITHOUT ANY KNOWLEDGE.
I just signed for the new package for 100 rental and gonna connect it to living room for parents.
They told they will come and install within tow weeks. They will give only a decoder and will connect to the same dish. its just took 10 mins at dialog customer care center and no charges.
Lets say that you have 2 decoders. One at the premium package and other at 100 package.
If you interchange the SIMs (or whatever you call it) in the 2 decoders, can we interchange the channel subscription on the 2 decoders. (I think you should be able to).
Also can we later shift the second decoder to a different address and buy a dish+LNB (from Pettah) and get it to work (by our own)
Some interesting points to discuss
@janaka
i think the cards in the decorder are binded to that particular decorder or else we should be able to use the card in a FTA decorder bought outside. i am not 100% sure about it.
I think we should be able to shift the second decorder to a different adress if we have a dish+LNB
I think this free second decoder is an valentine's day promotion. anybody know if it's availble after 14th?
up to 29 of feb
no sim change is possible as the decoder and the sim are tagged as one.
Hi ,am regurler reader, i have DTV connection, anyone can tell me, can i use this dish+LNB for FTA decoder and same time using connector
yes you can
4th TP delay
DTV no idea mpeg4 or mpeg2
free second decoder not nice offer
DTV try stock finis mpeg2 decoder
Next Start market mpeg4 decoder
Free 2nd DECODER
I wonder if DTV is going to introduce a new type of decoder for TP4 and they want to get rid of the old decoders?
Will subscribers then have to pay for the TP4 decoder??
Maybe "Admin" should try to obtain more information.
I have never known DTV to be so generous!!!
