Today February 12th 2008 we celebrate the first anniversary of this blog. This blog was launched a few days after the official launch of Dialog TV after their acquisition of CBNsat in December 2006 following a series of controversial events.
We take this opportunity of thank our fellow bloggers and Dialog TV Subscribers Unite for contributing useful information towards this blog and engaging in very interesting discussions which made this blog the most successful in the entire TV & Radio Sri Lanka Group of Blogs. One trend that we have seen rising is the use of mobile phones to access this blog.
We like to thank Dialog TV management who may have made use of this blog and we hope that the sentiments expressed by the subscribers/bloggers are taken into consideration during the decision making process.
The last few days have been interesting with subscribers waiting for the launch of the 4th TP and also some special offers which have been welcomed by some while others are viewing it with suspicion. The 4th TP which was activated towards the end of last month has its new channels scrambled. We believe that the launch of the new channels would probably take place by the end of this month or sooner.
Dialog TV has given some indication about how they view Rs 1400/= premium package subscribers and Rs 1949/= premium package subscribers by giving the free second decoder to both packages. This may indicate that both packages are being treated equally and it is quite possible that the new channels to be launched may be available for both which is exactly how it should be. However this is just a presumption, just because the decoder is given for both packages may not indicate that the channels will be available for both on an equal basis. According to some TP4 may be using MPEG4 compression whereas the others will be using MPEG2 but this is highly unlikely and if an upgrade occurs then all the transponders will be upgraded.
Whilst thanking everyone again for your participation in these discussions over the last year we trust you will be with us in the years to come. Please keep us updated on the latest on Dialog TV as the days progress.

year? i thought it was about two years
Congratulations and best wishes for the anniversary.
Hope this blog will continue being useful to all DTV subscribers and allow them to experess their opinions, concerns and suggestions as it has done in the past.
To get back to this new decoder offer I have a question and if anybody is there pl provide an answer.
I have old cbnsat decoder and 1400pkg. If I get another connection i.e 100 pkg I will get new decoder.
My problem is can I swap this new decoder for my existing 1400/- pkg and old decoder for 100/ pkg. Technically there should not be any problem. But will DTV will procedurely allow this ?
Congratulations!
First I best wishes for the anniversary!
Hope this time DTV will treat old customers with some respect. I noticed that dialog's competitor TIGO is treating old customers with good respect. They are giving 30% discounts for the old customers( That mean Celltel’s customers). This is good trend & we (old CBNSat customers) are expecting this type of treatment from DTV too.
Congratulations! DTV Forum
DTV maybe giving the free decoder to get rid of existing mpeg-2 decoders but as customers we are not losing anything except 117/- rupees a month.
From my perspective i hope the mpeg-2 boxes are cleared out fast so that DTV will be able to sell mpeg-4 boxes in the near future
Wish you a Happy Birthday
Congratulations Admin,
for the successful conduct of this extremely popular blog, and may it have continued success.
Best wishes also to all contributors.
stay cool.

you will need to buy another decoder to watch mpeg-4 channels.
The current offer by DTV gives you a free decoder and installation is also done without a charge. The only charge is the monthly package you choose for the free decoder which can be 100/-. how can this be a trap? if i am missing something here please let me know about it

if you meant mpeg-4 decoders no info on any plansa by DTV to market them
cable
I mean the normal mpeg-2 decoder selling price.
@619

Happy Anniversary!!!
r they givin a "FREE DECODER" or a "FREE CONNECTION wit a decoder". (to premium package holders)
coz those r two different things. even if they give us a free connection we'll have to pay monthly rental for tht connection.
PLEASE CORRECT IF I'M WRONG.
THANURA,
CORRECT,THEY ARE GIVING THE FREE CONNECTION OR THE FREE DECORDER WITH A CONDITION.
1.YOU HAVE TO PAY SIX MONTHS RENTAL UPFRONT ON THE PREMIER PACKAGE
2.YOU CANNOT DOWNGRADE THE PREMIER PACKAGE.
3.YOU CANT TRANSFER THE SECOND CONNECTION.
SO FOR SOMETHING FOR WHICH THE MARKET PRICE IS AROUND 8000/- YOU ARE COMMITTING A LOT.
ITS NOT WORTH IT AT ALL,THIS OFFER IS GOOD FOR TECHNOGUY MALAYSIA/SINGAPORE AND BORN AGAIN CULT AND NGO'BOOT LICKERS SUPPORTING LTTE LIKE 619(69),JESIKA,RUKMAL,FREEMAN,SHAMIN,RANAWEERA ALIAS THE PONNAYA.

Well done admin.. you have done agreat job.. This is the only place I trust to get the real picture of DTV..
Keep up the good work everybody...
Its good if DTV add some local channels like Art TV,ETV,TV Lanka,...etc to the new transponder. Bcos ther ar not very clear to out of colombo area.
yday i got the 2nd connection.as per future cntr u dont hv to pay 06months rental up front.its only an undertaking that u dont chng the existing package.
Guys does anyone of u know how the 2nd connection will b given. Is it fm the decoder or fm the satelite. Those a...... doesn't know anything.
further as per them new channels will b given to 1400 as well.
@ Kevin,
as far as i know they will run a separate cable from ur existing dish to the new decoder.
They are not drawing a cable from the existing but will have a separate cable from the dish. They are not using loop out of the existing decorder.
FOR information
we DONT need to pay 6 months rental upfront for the premiere package. We just have to give a signed undertaking that we wont downgrade the existing premiere package for 6 months.
The connection is given by connecting a splitter to the cable coming from the dish, from the splitter two cables will seperatly run to their respective decoder
Kevin is right.New channels will be given to 1400 pkg holders as well.I got the info fm my friend who works for dialog as the AGM - Finance.Because they treat the old 1400 also as the super pkg...
Christo
Its already written in the Newspaper advertisement
Does this include the FOX channels as well ?
Job well done Admin,
.
while Wishing the blog and all bloggers i have noticed that the Dialog mobile site is providing several new channels on their mobile portal.
.
This may be the channels which may arrive with TP4, Somebody may clarify,
.
Following New channels are in the list
.
1. Channel C
2. Crazy TV
3. Joke TV
4. Bollywood TV
.
What alliens are de?
thivanka
can somebody tell me whether you have to buy a separate package with da decoder you get free of charge?? In other words do u have to have 2 separate packages for each decoder??
@thivanka
yes you can get the 100/- package
This free decorder offer is total bulshit thing, cause here in Canada and U.S. they never ever asking to pay package prices for additional decorders, just they asking to pay some nominal fee for additional decorders, somewhere around $3 to $5 monthly (If customers like they can buy it too)as a result they can watch whatever package they subscribe originaly through their additional decorders. So I am telling you Dialog TV is bulling and trying to rob you guys hard earn money. So force Dialog TV and push them to charge just nominal fee (some where around Rs:20/= to Rs:30/= monthly for each) for additional decorders and let you guys to watch whatever package you originally subscribe, through the additional decorders.
PASUN SUMIRA
THIS INNOVATIVE IDEA MUST BE FROM THAT "MOTTASENA" ROMESH ANTHONY,I DONT THINK HE KNOW ANYTHING WHAT THE COMPETITORS DOES.HE IS SO FOOLISH AND DOESNT SEEM TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE DTH INDUSTRY AND EVEN THE CONTENT.
SO YOU SHOULD EXPECT THINGS SUCH AS THIS WHEN FOOLS LIKE THIS ARE SAID TO BE TAKUNG DECESIONS OF DTV.
@pasan sumira
Ah.... to live in US and Canada
I dont know why this buissness model never came to this region? not only DTV as far as i know even the Indian operators (Dish,Tatasky,... etc) charge package fees for an addtional decoder.
The original PayTv operator comet started this when they gave connections. so i think everybody has followed them even LBN digital is doing the same thing.
Is this unfair trade?
Anybody up to write to TRC about this
MOTTASENA "ROMESH ANTHONY" CAN YOU ANSWER CABLES QUESTION,OR SHALL WE REPORT YOU TO THE TRC,RUN TO NUSHAD PERERA AND GET SOME ADVICE,I DONT THINK YOU KNOW A DAMN.
DTV Customer Care says that when you get the 'free' second decoder, you HAVE to get either a 1400 or 1900 package. You CANNOT get a 100/- package. So much for the 'free' offer......
@amaris
a free second decoder is only given to customers subscribed to the premium package. customers who are NOT ON the premium package will NOT get a second decoder free.
you can subscribe to any package on the second decoder
admin/guys Congrats !

Sri Lanka In Focus-NEWS & CHAT
First of all, I would like to thanks the Dialog TV Forum (and the previous CBN Sat Forum) and its Admin for everything.
The CBN Sat Forum was the top place to turn to when your CBN Sat connection was down and nobody knew about what was happening. In the Forum, we could discuss and share our ideas and news, making the process of awaiting the relaunch much more bearable.
The Dialog TV Forum continues to help us discuss Dialog Satellite TV today, and I hope it will continue so for many years to come.
I also thank the CBN Sat Forum and Dialog TV Forum for introducing me to Blogging. Before I discovered the Forum I never knew that such a thing existed.
I wish TV Radio Sri Lanka including Dialog TV Forum, and its Admin my best wishes for the future.
Yesterday I go DTV second connection installed. It just took 5 mins and all free of charge
The didn't use the splitter as they say it can be affected by thundering so just tap two cables together and connected to Dish. The new decoder has 70% strength and the older one has 41%. They say due to new one, but I think its closer to dish so no drop s take place.
So it took only three days to dialog to come and do the rest. They came at night at 8 pm to do the stuff.
"The didn't use the splitter as they say it can be affected by thundering so just tap two cables together and connected to Dish."
Is it true about this thundering effect? I don't think so. It's just cost cutting.
Where is Lanka Info? What about the new channels?
They used a splitter to give my connection. just a small device with 1 input and 2 outputs
I think the signal strength is displayed differently for the old and new decoder. no way can there be such a difference between the two decoders.
really didnt think its a year... anywway admin, very good job and thanx for making a forum like this in the first place!
Chaminda
Thamuse hithuwada api konde badapu chamindala kilyala?
Stop lies men.
We can see you are promoting DTV here from all your posts. You must be out of your mind if you geneuingly bought a second connection under this scheme.
I don't comment much but I am a regular visitor here from CBN Sat days.So we know exacly what people like you are doing.
Alf is thousand times better than you as he he is straight forward in promoting Dish TV without beating round the bush.People know exactly what he does so they make up their own minds after reading his posts.
You on the other hand try to show something else while saying one thing.
oh and about the splitter thing... i think its utter BS about thunder affecting it. i have an FTA system with two dishes connected thru a splitter... no lightning has ever hit the system... at least upto now...
TORANA'S C TV IS COMING ON MARCH 1ST TO DTV PLATFORM.
Wake up guys, Wake Up!!! don't promote Dialog TV's free decorder offer, its a totally bulshit thing as I said earlier, so instead of promoting Dialog TV's wallet robbing methods, just force them to practice good business ethics, and pass the all the benifits to the loyal customers like you guys. Then you can get additional decorders for a just small fee (Rs:20/= to Rs:30/=), instead of charging package fees for additional decorders.
IF THEY WON'T LISTEN YOU, GO AHEAD AND FILE A COMPLAIN TO T.R.C. AND GET APPOPRIATE ACTION AGAINST DIALOG TV.
Pasan Sumira
I dont know how practical your saying is.
How do they give a decoder for Rs:20/= Rs:30/= ?
What is the second decoder cost for DishTV or TATAsky ?
Is anybody volunteering?
Is there a sound foundation for us to do this?
anybody willing to write a letter to TRC
@ Rukmal,
Why not my friend? Rs:20-30 mean monthly rental. Here in Canada & U.S. decorders selling price is $150, but whoever wants to rent it out they are giving it to them for $5 monthly rental. So Rs:8000 decorder, why they can't give it for Rs:20 to 30 monthly rental?
RUKMAL 619(69) JESIKA FREEMAN SHAMIN RANAWEERA
DONT START YOUR FOOLISH NGO,BORN AGAIN CULT QUESTIONS HERE,YOU BEGGER IS TALKING AS IF YOU ARE GOING TO BUY THE SECOND DECORDER.
Pasan Sumira
We cant compare CANADA, USA with Poor SRILANKA. Their customer base is huge. SO they can reduce the monthly rental.
So its not a good point !!
Please continue commenting under the new post titled "Problems that are annoying subscribers".
